I'm curious. How many Uly riders are planning on going to Homecoming this July? It should be a lot of fun!

I am thinking about it. What's the best way to get around Chicago from Cleveland?

I'd just take I-80 to 294. Most of the Freeways in and near Chicago are under major construction.
Takes you west of the city. That's my 2 cents anyway.

Ways around chi-town.

The freeway...boring and filled with toll booths. If you choose this route do yourself a favor and buy a EZPASS. Hint buy one from the PA Turnpike. Why? PA discounts all tolls for MC's 50%.

The fast ferry. Takes you across the lake from Mi to Wi

The Skyway. Real men fight it out downtown. Then take Lake Shore for the view. This has actually worked well for me during rush hour times.

Traffic can be bad at any time, but it is almost always worse during rush "hours". So even if you are gonna do the 294, thing, try to plan your presence here to avoid the morning or evening rush. So, ideally, after 10:00 AM and before 3:00 PM.

The Dan Ryan, (94) is under construction through the summer and will probably be especially bad.

Oh, I forgot the original question... I plan on going. Not for the races, but for the other stuff. If and when it is ever actually announced...

The Fast Ferry is SUPER COOL!

If we could get enough folks it may even be fun to have a get together the night before near the landing and all take the ferry early the next morning.

I posted pics of the last time that Chauly (I call him Chuck) and I took it.

Found the Fast Ferry Web Site:

I was just looking at the lake-express website and noticed that there is a BMW motorcycle special this summer in Milwaukee and they have special motorcycle rates. How come Buell didn't get something like this?

Fiery and I have rode the Lake Express on bike trips around the lake trips. Very interesting vessel, when on the upper deck at speed you have to hang on!
As an option to get from Cleveland to East Troy, consider going to Indianapolis on I-74 west to Bloomington,Ill, then I-39 north to 43 in Wisc to East Troy. Sure beats sitting in Chi town traffic!

Buell can't even set up a Host Hotel! What makes you think they can set up a boat ride across Lake Michigan!!??

Have two weeks set aside for the event, I want to vary the route for a few days instead of Interstate. If I could juggle another week I'd also drop in at the BMW National.

Might have to cancel though for this year, new S/O isn't distance-ready...

Rocketsprink; BMW didn't set up any ferry rides or homecomings, either. It's the owners who have done it.(BMWMOA)
It's something we can learn from, so that next year, we can offer it for the 25th!(along with a host hotel)

No Iron Butt award here, since I'm only 45 minutes from the factory. But, I'll be there on Friday.

For you Ohioans(sp?), being from Chicago's South Side, I'd stay off the Darn Ryan even without the construction.

I already left a message for the factory about that same thing. It's funny; there are six different variants of the Lightning listed, but the model that best suited for long distance riding is consigned to the "other" category.
It doesn't matter; I'm going to be there!

I just called, and all they have left are two room suites for $139.00/night. I'll just keep my reservation in Sheboygan.
