Had a free afternoon today while staying in Eagle Colorado, so I decided to explore.

You have got to love being on a Ulysses when the road turns to dirt!

Check out my 2 hour ride along the Colorado River, covering 76 miles and numerous picture stops. The route was about 70% asphalt and 30% dirt.

If a picture is worth 1000 words….this is a novel.

Very Nice! Need to get over that way someday.
Do you live in Eagle?

What sort of luggage rack do you have on that Uly...and does it have a weight limit?

Lorazepam: Thanks! Do you like my aux light bracket?

Snowscum: I'm just up here in Eagle for the week (work related), I actually live close to you (112th & Sheriden).

Old_mil: That is the standard Buell rack for the top case. Don't recall the prescribed weight limit, but it is pretty sturdy.

Maximum: great pics. You should also post this in the "ride reports" section at advrider.com (if you haven't already).

It is spiritual to ride a M/C in country like that. Riding in a car/truck looking out the window you might as well be watching National Geographic on TV...it is so much better on a motorcycle. I will be heading out there in 6 weeks..Kansas, CO, UT, NV, CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, SD, NE back to KS then home to Indiana. Just a little jaunt for the ULY.

Well, the ride back down to Denver yesterday was not nearly as nice as it was in the mountains this past week.

Check out the pictures below with the ice all over everything. The weather turned about 30 miles from home and although the roads were not totally frozen yet, I had to be careful. The worst part was trying to keep my face shield clear.

Also, you can get a pretty good idea of the wind coverage of the Zero Gravity shield, as the ice was only formed on the shoulder area of my body.

I don't have the only red Uly!

You did a better job than me to. I love your red seat. How did you do that?

Jlnance: No, you still have the only Red Uly (that I know of), since mine is actually Sunset Orange. See my other post to see how I did the seat.

Maximum,

Very nice job on the bike indeed. I was looking at some of the pictures of the roads you were on and want to know what you think of the Syncs on the loose surface? It is almost time to replace tires on mine and I live in a very loose sandy area and need a decent offroad tire. I love the 616's in the sand as much as I hate them on the road. I was going to go with the mt60's, but a good friend of mine tried them and the rear was done at 2500 miles and I need more life than that. The Syncs look more like a great wet pavement tire than loose off road tire so I was curious as to what you thought of them? TIA

Jmhinkle: I don't have any experience with the Dunlop’s; as I had the dealer swap them for the Syncs as part of the purchase deal (no extra charge). But I can say that I am extremely happy with the Pirelli’s.

On this ride the dirt was pretty hard pack most of the time, and I was moving at an average speed of 40-50 mph. The fastest I traveled in these conditions was in the low 60’s, and never once did I feel like the tires were breaking loose. The toughest conditions I have ridden was on a road with loose gravel about 6-8 inches thick. The bike was very squirrelly until I finally got my butt off the seat, shifted my weight back, and began goosing the throttle some.

I am currently around 4700 miles on these tires and the rear is getting very close to needing to be replaced (maybe I can get another 500-1000 miles out of it). I have contemplated trying different tires next time that would get me more mileage, but I really like the all around performance of the Syncs (on and off road), so I will probably just stick with them.

Oh man...my heart hurts seeing those pictures. I lived in Avon CO (by Vail) for 5 years and I miss it. Unfortunately, I didn't have a bike when I lived there. Now that I have a bike (2006 CityX), I'm stuck in north Jersey. I need to get out there with my bike one day. 131 between I70 and Steamboat is an amazing ride during the day. Seeing those pictures really brought me back because that is the area that I lived, worked and played in for 5 years and it i recognize a lot of it. Great Post!
