Hi Folks,

Getting ready to order a 2007 stock seat and deluxe tankbag for my 06 ULY. I know this has been discussed before but are the folks using the o7 seat still happy and having no problems with fit or "rubbing".

Thanks heh.....

i had to put two washers between each bolt and the latch on the bike for the 07 seat to fit my 06. the hook on the seat did not go down far enough to engage the latch. all good now.

i had to do the same as Thelumax, i use the 07 seat for day to day use but if i'm riding all day i will still use the stock 06,just more comfortable (i'm 5'9")

Interesting comment Bob, got to admit the 06 is very comfortable. Just tired of trying to convince my toes to grow so I can paddle around in parking lots and at stop lites....
Lowering the bike would probably be a better solution as you keep that great seat to peg relation and the comfy seat. Doesn't seem to be a solution to that other than changing out the shock ($$$$)

Thanks for the comments!

You can lower a Uly about 1.5" for about $100 plus your time. It's not a bad install. I found a used XB9R shock for about $100. Even new, I think they are about $250. You want one with a 14" eye-to-eye length to get the 1.5" drop. The list of stock lengths posted by Anonymous is:

XB12X max=14.84 min=11.56 free=14.82

XB12Ss max=13.59 min=11.01 free=13.57

XB12Scg max=13.28 min=11.34 free=13.25

XB9R and others XB's max=14.09 min=11.33 free=14.07

Then you have to drop the forks about the same amount in the triple clamps. To do that, you have to raise the handlebars. If you use the "upside down" top clamp approach with no other spacers, you can get about 1". I'm riding it that way for now but plan on making spacers soon.

If you like the setup, you can ride it until you care to pop for a Wilber or Penske shock ($$$) to optimize your handling. If you don't, you can go back to the original and sell the short shock.

Setting up the shorter XB shock is going to be approximate because it is for a slightly lighter bike with a shorter swingarm (52" vs. 54"). My approach is to set it up one step harder than the XB9R rider's manual. I don't push the handling envelope so I have no complaints but the lowering of the bike has enabled me to enjoy the long seat-to-footpeg distance that got me on the Uly in the first place.

Interesting Gotj, I just might poke around for a slightly used shock, I was considering lowering my bars a bit, so maybe spacers with a flat bar might be the trick.

Thanks!

Well it looks like I'm the odd one out, couldn't wait to get rid of the 07 seat off my bike for the 06 seat off my old wreck, which now sports my 07 seat,I could even go for another 1.5" to 2" more to make it even more comfortable, but I would not have been able to ride anymore with the 07 seat,so for me,couldn't wait to get rid of it,plus 06 id easier to keep fabric clean....

Initially the '07 seat felt cramped in comparison to the stock '06. Now I'm used to it. Low speed maneuvering seems easier with the '07. (6'1" 33in. inseam)

The 07 seat feels too narrow up front and the "seat pocket" is too far back. I either have to really push back on the seat, or I teeter in the front.

I prefer the 06 low followed by the 06 stock.

My $.02

Anybody tried a Uly Corbin seat? If so, how does it compare with any of the factory seats?

Well...since it handles to my satisfaction now, any remaining quest is for personal comfort. But, who knows? You might be right--115 cubic inches would be interesting.

The '07 seat rocks. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar, and itchin' for a fight.

Comfort:
Awesome for those who don't describe themselves as SWY [Single White Yeti] in the classified adds. Pop in some earplugs, and you'll wonder where the last 12 hours went.

Latch:
I did have a tough time with the seat latch. After hours of struggle, I stacked a pair of washers to push the latch just a bit aft, and bingo, effortless latching.

Rubbing:
Take note of where your positive cable runs from your battery. After installing my heated vest connector, I mis-routed the cable, and wore into the cloth cable-wrap. Don't do that.
There should be a seemingly out of place plastic block bolted onto the ECM mounting. If it's not there, get one; I think this may have been a mid '06 mod. I wore a corner of this "spacer" block down in just a couple of days of riding, but it hasn't gotten any worse over the last 10000 miles.

Notice to Dwarves [NOTOD]:
You may not like your stock windscreen with the lower seat.
The wind acoustics are noisier with the lower seat. Better wind protection ('cause I'm lower), but noisier. I'm actually thinking about tapping some new holes in my windscreen to drop it down about an inch, so my helmet sits in cleaner [quieter] airflow.
But what about the Buell Tall Windscreen? I tried this out. I lasted only a couple of miles on the interstate before I took an exit, and swapped it for my stock screen; the acoustics and buffetting were murderous with the tall windscreen. I also rode without any windscreen on that same day, but determined that I had too much buffetting on my shoulders to comfortably zip amongst tractor trailers at 80-90 mph. [w/ 'Stich Darien jacket]

Just today, I literally walked into a set of automatic doors that did NOT open. "No Salida" was at eye level, but I had to crane my neck upwards to see "Not an Exit". Damnit! If it weren't for my Stich, my injuries could have been far worse! ...'cause some guy [much taller than me, too] crashed into the back of me as I hit the door! HA!

"Latch:

L_je,

I had the same experience with my 2007 seat. However, I noticed that the part numbers stamped on the 2007 base are all four part numbers; 06 low & high, 07 low & high. So I just leaned on it until I got everything latched. After riding it for about 100 miles in mild weather, it was easy to reinstall. The issue is not the fit of the base but the tension of the cover. The cover is so tight that it warps the seat base front to back which makes it so difficult to engage the rear hooks and latch. After riding it, the cover stretches to let the base fit properly. You might want to check if yours has stretched enough so you can get rid of the washers and have the back of the seat line up with the rear.

Gotj,

Dude, did you not see the picture of me that Ft_B posted above? That's me in the "Snugli"(tm). No amount of hopping/jumping/riding was enough for me to coax the seat into the latch. Yup, the seat base is the same vendor part #, but....

When the dealer does my BAS recall, and loses my shimming washers, we'll see how well it mates up. This way, I have to do nothing more than to remind myself to pick up my bike, with a couple of extra washers in my pocket, just in case.

Ordered the seat and some other stuff from a brand new Harley /Buell (sorta) dealership about 35 miles from my place. Just for your information, hear some prices in canadian funds (to which we add 14.5 tax)
07 seat 159.00
Basic tank bag 169.00
Service manuel 89.00

All and all not alot more expensive then what you guys are paying in the States. My big problem is getting my insurance company to understand the difference between a Buell and a Harley. Full coverage is still costing me 850.00 clams!
The guy at the harley parts counter couldn't believe the seat was just 159.00 bucks!! The Quebec Buell network still has a long way to go!

Even after converting to American those prices seem way too high to me. You might want to try our Sponsors and save some money.
