After reading about the differences between the 07 and the 06 air boxes I decided that this would be a good cheap upgrade to my 06. After ordering and installing my new 07 air box and K&N filter from American Sportbike I took my Uly down to my local shop Legend Harley Davidson and Buell in Silverdale Washington. They mounted and balanced my new back tire, installed the BAS Recall and flashed my 06 Ecm to the new updated 07 version. The difference is notable and And vastly improved! My Uly does not have any problem running at speeds around 20mi/hr and now loves to run out more than before the upgrade. Before the 07 air box it seemed to have a little flat spot around the 3500 to 4000 rpm range that totally disappeared and you can hear the engine more through the air box. Has anyone else noticed this? I think i like it even though i wont hear it after i get a Special OPS pipe on... Over all I would recommend Legend Harley and Buell Of Silverdale Washington and the 07' airbox and ecm upgrade to anyone with an XB. Oh and when your there look for the sales guy Brian (thinks his CityX is a dirt bike) he's a true Bueller.

I have the race pipe.

You'll still hear the intake.

Now it's a chorus of beautiful Buell music. ;)

I was skeptical of the airbox upgrade since for '07 Buell didn't mention any HP or torque improvements.

But for $35 I figured I'd give it a shot based on Ft_Bastrd's recommendation.

I did, and while I don't notice a huge difference in power, the bike seems to rev a bit faster and not "labor" as much. Feels like it's breathing better.

I took it down a very familiar road I usually run in 4th gear about 70mph. There are a few tighter turns that require a 3rd gear downshift. With the '07 airbox, I left the bike in 4th and it pulled out of the turn smoothly without protest. I'm running the Race Kit as well, so I didn't get a reflash.

Maybe I'm imagining the improvement, but for $35, it "feels" better and I'm happy with it.

Money well spent in my opinion.

Well I finally decided to install the 07 airbox cover in my 06 Uly. It was going fine thanks to some pictures that had been posted here earlier (thanks).

I have a few questions before I finish off.

1. On viewing and removing the filter I noted what to me seemed a surprising amount of oil pooled a little at the bottom of the grove where the bottom of the filter rests. It is not clear to me where this oil came from and if it indicates something to be concerned about. I have about 2800 miles on the bike and I am new to v-twins so I am asking the question. Doesn't seem to me like oil in the airfilter area is a good thing. Doesn't seem to be much on the filter itself and the oil seems to be clean and thick.

2. The 3 torx bolts that secure the muffle valve actuator assembly did not seem to have loctite on them and I have some 222 that I could put on them. They were not loose but I wouldn't want them to come loose either. 222 is breakable (low strength) stuff - purple-ish. Should I use it? The 4 bolts that secure the cover were a little loose so they will get some.

Other questions would be.. Anything else I should check while I have this area open? Anything in this area that might rust that should be sealed with wax etc?

Thanks for any comments and thanks for the continued reports by those that have made the change to the 07 airbox.

The oil is fairly normal. The breather tubes empty into that area and in theory the vapor is sucked into the intake and consumed. If there is a significant amount of oil, you may be overfilling your filler. If you are running it anywhere close to the top of the fill line, you will experience excess oil pooling in the breather box.

Several folks have converted to an external "puke tube, spooge catch can" structure. This keeps the junk out of your breather box.

I think you can use the loctite if you want, but I wouldn't use much.

So the 2 breather tubes vent into airbox (page 4-125 of factory manual). I can now see the appeal of the catchcan arrangement. I can't help but think the airfilter is getting some oil on it and may not be working as efficiently as intended.

Thanks for the comments. I think I have things in hand (oops).

This will be the one and only time you will seek a "spooge-tube-ectomy". ;)
