Just became a proud owner of used Black '06 Uly, picked up last week at Sunrise Harley Davidson in Ft Lauderdale. Dealer was reluctant to give me prior owners name and I would like to call him to ask about any idiosyncracies or mods he may have done, last TPS reset, etc. Does anyone have any ideas on how to find a prior owner ? Tks.

Reminds me of a time before the Uly I was looking at a used Multistrada at a reputable Honda dealership. The owner was very vague about the history of the bike but assured me it had only some minor cosmetic damage and was in excellent shape. With just the VIN number I called a Ducati dealership and found out the bike had been totaled and sold for scrap, they were also able to tell me which recalls had been addressed. I also was able to contact the previous owner and have a chat with him, he couldn't believe his bike could ever be put back on the road. Needless to say I did not buy the bike nor will I return to this dealer.
Try giving your VIN to a Buell dealership (perhaps where you will do your future service) this may yield info about the bikes history, recalls and repairs on warranty.

Supertoon,

The bike is pristine but it would save me a lotta trouble if I knew everything the prior owner had done to the bike, recalls, etc.

Would be nice if someone on the forum knew the person who owned the bike. It's in very good shape, 2,900 miles (?), Corbin seat, hand warmers....

I'll try what you are suggesting with the new dealership...

The dealer (or possibly Buell CS) should be able to tell you if the recalls have been performed.

I wouldn't know how to track down the previous owner (although I'm sure it's possible). And, even if you do, what's to say he'll tell you the truth? You need to go over the bike with a fine-tooth comb, or pay a knowledgeable mechanic to do the same. It's time/money well spent.

I believe vehicle registration is public record. If you knew what state it was previously titled in, you could call the DMV and get the name of the previous owner.

You can find the title history by doing a Carfax report.

Tracing the history through an authorized dealer with the right serial number would be the best in my mind. If any recalls have been done or if the warranty as been voided for any reason, better to find out before you do the purchase. I used this precise reason for asking for the VIN from my less than honest dealer. In retrospect I am surprised he gave it to me so readily.
I am in Canada though, the rules and regulations may be different in the states.

In any case, live dangerously, just buy it and get ready for the ride of your life!

Kelton, I'm the Salesperson you spoke to at Ft. Lauderdale who arranged your delivery from Sunrise. All you had to do was ask. I'm off Thursday, but I will contact you on Friday and give you all the info you would like about the bikes previous owner and it's history. Hope you're enjoying it!-Dave.

Hey Dave,

You did me good and I appreciate it,the bike is great.

I asked one of the 3 of you if you could tell me who the prior owner was, that I wanted to ask him what mods, changes, etc had been done". I was told,in a courteous way, " We make sure all the mods are done before it gets out the door". That was really only half the answer to my question and not the important part. I figured your guys were thinking " This guy may be some psychopathic goofball and I can't give him the prior owner name" I understood and didn't push it.

You were very helpful Dave, this post is not meant to throw off on anyone.

I will also be out of town on Friday, if you could give me the info next week I would greatly appreciate it. The bike is great. Thanks for your help. .

Thanks Vikingdave, I bought my first Buell from a very helpful gentleman named David at Pompano HD Buell and thought maybe he had moved over. Best of luck, getting more Buells on the street! NUTS
