Just called my local dealer's parts department to order an '07 air box cover (Part# p0215.3aa). I was told that he can't order it. He told me his computer says, "While the part is in the manual, it is not available".

Where's DaveS when you need him. It's going to be like pulling teeth to buy a simple part when all I used to have to do was send Dave an email and say, "I need this". It would show up a couple of days later. I'd get a 10% discount to boot.

Man...come back Dave!! Come back!!!

California Buell/H-D had no problem ordering one for me, a few months ago. As I recall the part was on back/order, but it only took a couple of weeks to get it in.

Try another parts guy or dealer...

Try another parts guy or dealer...

I have found that another parts guy is the answer to what seems to be a lame dealer. The same goes for salespersons, service writers and technicians. If you don't know them, always ask for the "Buell Guys"!

Parts guy just called and said he CAN get it.

He's redeemed himself.

Said it was in another parts system somewhere. Seems to be that there is a lot of complication in their computer systems or something. It took the same dealer 3 weeks to get me a cooling fan, and 2 months to get me a sidestand recall kit.

I really want to support them since they are my local Buell shop, I guess I'm just having DaveS withdrawls. I have to resign myself to the fact that Dave was a unique individual and I'm not going to get that kind of service again.

What do you mean, Dave was a unique individual? Where did he go? He didn't die, did he?

Nope...Dave didn't die. He started his own business selling archery equipment.

What's the worry?

Call Appleton and talk to Z in parts.

I made an order from DaveS as he was leaving and Andy took over for him on my order. Andy seems to be a great guy and trying hard to live up to what DaveS had us used to as far as customer service. If you go to the Appleton link in the sponsors section, it is now the Andy I need it now thread and works the same as when DaveS ran it. Of course I still miss DaveS just because he is an outstanding individual, but I wish him the best of luck in his new business.

So if I want to order parts, get the Badweb price, and do it in the same matter I did with DaveS, I call Andy or Z?

I guess I just resist change. I liked Dave because I could shoot him an email and say, "I need XYZ" and he'd send it to me. He had my credit card on file, and my address. It would just show up.

When I ordered my plugs and brake pads, I sent him an email that basically said I need to change my plugs and get new brake pads since my stockers were leaving crap on the rotor. I didn't specify a part number, brand, anything....I just told him I needed plugs and pads.

In about 3 days, I got a set of Buell Pro spark plugs and Lyndalls pads. Both were the right parts, and work great.

Dave was more than a "sales guy", he was an enthusiast. He knew what worked and want didn't. He knew these bikes inside and out. I used to email him or call him with questions and he'd give me the straight scoop. Usually saying things like "I sell them, and if you want, I'll sell you one. But it's a waste of your money".

Man, I really miss having that kind of resource. It's not just about price, it was about his expertise. It was the fact that he is "one of us". He posted here, made friends (and sometimes enemies), and did something that no other person associated with a dealership has ever done for me. Gave a damn.

I've not met Andy, but I've worked with many of the folks at Appleton. They are all good people. I'd say that they give a damm. Z in parts has always taken good care of me.

I also miss the email and it shows up thing, but I'd assume Andy would start that back up.

I guess it's more a matter of calling up there and introducing myself.

Does Andy have an email address??

Go check out the Appleton sponsor link. He has his email and phone number on there. He still monitors the "Andy I need threads" just like DaveS did. He may not be DaveS, but he is trying real hard to be a great guy from the start.
