My local Dlr has several 06 Ulysses demos. All have miles on them but they are untitled and will be sold as new, I assume.

What would be a fair/good price for one of these without luggage.

Also, would it make sense to pay much more for an 07. Somebody said they have different cylinder heads that run a bit smoother.

I don't not know a fair price but my dealer has new 2006 models for $10,300 plus the taxes...the heads are the same for 06 and 07 models..I am would think this price is a little high and could be wrangled down.

The '06 versus the '07 difference are substantial though no major component differences as engine or transmission components.

- The oil pump is different. It is suppose to scavenges better than the '06 model.
- The front spring rates are progressive versus single rate. It helps the bike from diving under braking.
- The air box is more open on the '07 with the main air opening on the opposite side from the exhaust header. I see advantages and disadvantages with the new air box. If you plan water crossings the '06 box is more protective to me, and though I have not tried dragging side by side with an '07, my '06 runs toe-to-toe with my buddies new '07 so I see no significant performance advantage. They did not change the HP ratings so my seat of the pant measure seams to be on takt.
- The '07 have a better seat than either the standard '06 seat or the '06 low seat. Well unless you are 6'4" or taller. The '06 seat does work better for taller riders, but the '07 works better for us shorter riders and better for the pillion too.
- The '07 have Pirelli tires. These tires are overall better than the D616 Dunlops of the '06. I have not tried the Syncs out in Mud, but the D616 were good in the loose stuff off pavement and were the best rain tire I have ever ridden on. The Syncs are suppose to be as good. Unfortunately I have wondered into dedicated street tires and have not put the Syncs on my Uly yet to compare with the D616. The Main problem with the D616 was the high speed weave that many of us complained about. I hated having to change tires because the D616s were good off road, but like any tire that is too dedicated to off-road conditions, the tread block would cup and the bike just will not track straight at freeway speeds.
- The '07 have all the recall issues of the '06 straightened out. The '06 has two recalls. One for the kick stand and the other is for the lean sensor. Minor issues that can be aggravating if it drops the bike or leaves on the side of the road. If you choose to go with the '06 make sure that they have done all the recall work before taking delivery.
- 07 model is missing the "American Motorcycles" label on the air box that the earlier models have. My buddy really hates that too. It may mean nothing to you but it is a difference.

If it were me, I would work on a sub-10,000 plus tax price or go with a '07 for mid-10,000. To me the improvements of the '07 are worth a $1000 more.

Like Troyyz said, we both just purchased brand new 06's last month with no miles on them (other than 5 miles for the original road test) for $9750 out the door. I got the faster Orange one and he had to settle for the Black. Anyway, there were no dealer prep fees, no freight charges, and even the 1000 mile service was included free of charge!

I also added luggage and a few 07 upgrades at a 15% discount. Overall I was very pleased with the deal, and am blown away by how great of a bike the Ulysses is!

Try to get a good deal, but more importantly, just get one!

The '07 does have different heads as in part number that DaveS verified. If I remember right, no one is aware of what the change is exactly, but I'm willing to bet a lot of money it has nothing to do with running smoother. Over 2500 RPM the bikes are smooth anyways.

Excellent summary thanks mr m2nc.

I larned stuff.

I've been jumping off my 06 X on to an 07 R for the last few days and the 07 is noticeably smoother. Across the rev range too btw. Now I understand why.

My girl is also tall and prefers the 06 passenger seat - as i do.

I have an 06 Uly and have installed the 07 air box. The low-rpm surging went away with that change. I recommend that if you go with an 06, you get the 07 air box as part of the deal.

Drilling holes in the 06 box is an option. I didn't have any hole saws so I would have had to buy the saw(s) and pilot drill at a cost of about $20 or more. I went the $35 route and bought the 07 box. If you drill, I would expect it to be helpful to have at least a picture of both sides of the 07 box and preferably the box itself to guide the placement and size of the holes. Of course, any holes would help. Other threads have those pictures but I don't have the link.

I just ordered an '07 airbox cover. My logic is that there has to be some advantage if Buell went through the hassle of designing a new part. Not a small expense I'm sure.

Of course, I didn't feel a huge difference in power when I went to the race kit. The bike ran MUCH better, actually, it ran like it should run. Perhaps the airbox cover is one of those type fixes. Maybe it will make the throttle response better, but not make any more power. I'll soon see.
