The past few nights I've been working on getting my Uly more audible and visible. I ended up putting on a Stebel Horn, HID low beam, along with a set of PIAA 1100X's and an extra powerlet for my electric vest. While I was at it I went under the airbox and did Treadmark's wiring fixes, and put on a set of Magnacore wires with iridium plugs.

Special thanks to Ft_bstrd, Reepicheep, Corporate Monkey, KLS, Glenn, Rhinowerx, Lorazepam and all the other posters who have given this board such a wealth of information.

Here are some of the pics...

Homemade wiring harness. I got pretty anal and did separate runs of 12ga for the horn, and 3 14ga for the PIAA's, HID, and powerlet. I wanted everything on a separate fuse and independent of the stock wiring.

Here is the Treadmark's fixes along with my wiring addition..

HID under the airbox. With the exhaust valve actuator gone (thanks race kit) This freed me up some room for the balast and relay.

Underseat fuse box. GLENN showed me this great fusebox setup, which was tidier than having four inline fuses.

Under the bonnet. It took a bit of work modding the stock Uly bracket, but I was able to get the Stebel horn, Relays for the PIAA's and horn, and the HID igniter mounted under the flyscreen. I went a little crazy with nylon wire protector and some rubber from a HD tube, but I don't have to worry about anything wearing out and shorting. I know I need to get rid of those vampire clamps I used on the Heatroller, next time I'll replace them with Posilocks. I'm not a big fan of the Stebel's sound (think clown horn), but it is plenty loud.

Side Saddle powerlet. I made a small bracket out of 2" wide aluminum and used it to mount a powerlet on the side for my vest to plug into. No more having to secure the thermostat to the jacket and having a cord stretched across the front of my bike. As a bonus, since I wired it as always on, I can use it to recharge the battery and for one of those BMW plug LED camp lights.

Heres a few pics of the final result. The combo is very bright with all four lights going. The HID is great as a low beam projecting a wide bright beam. Turning on just the highbeam doesn't seem to do much more, but in conjunction with the PIAA's it is very noticeable. Helps to have the PIAA's aimed right too. In the first pic, they were helping me spot low flying planes.

On a related note, some of my Touratech stuff showed up so I put on my footpegs and oil cooler guard.

Thanks again for all those you helped with advice, pics, links, and the like.

The HID passed the LEO test. Got pulled over yesterday. 61 in a 45 (thought it was a 55). My friend was riding with me and the cop said he couldn't tell which of us was speeding, so we lucked out and got off with a verbal warning. Didn't give the lighting a second glance.

Is that a right-side air scoop I see? If so, where did you find it? And does it help reduce right-side temps/cooling fan run time?
