Let me start by saying that I have no affiliation with California Scientific, just a satisfied customer. Here's my opinion of the company and the product. CUSTOMER SERVICE=Excellent. Several emails with questions were answered the same day. I shipped back a Cee Baileys shield and my credit card was credited that same day. (See the web site www.calsci.com for details of this offer) Ordered the shield on a Friday and it was delivered via priority mail on Monday. FIT & FINISH=Excellent. Shield was shipped in a cloth bag that prevented any scratching and will make for good storage this summer. Install took all of 20 minutes and the fit is very good. ROAD TEST=Excellent. Was able to get in 80 miles yesterday in windy conditions. At 85MPH, in every direction, no turbulence of any kind. Did not notice any effect of the shield on handling but did notice a feeling of leaning on the handlebars. I feel this is because the shield is doing its job of getting the wind off the torso. I am 5'10" with a 29" inseam, and ride an 06 with the low seat. Air hit me at the top of my face shield on my full face helmet, but it was smooth air with no buffeting. This is exactly what I wanted as this will help with helmet venting in hot weather. This is the Medium height shield and they offer 3 heights. Bought this shield as a cold weather alternative, but feel it is going to be a permanent addition. Can you tell I'm pleased with my purchase?

I had the same experience with Parabellum .

Excellent fit and finish, bolted together first time without having to redrill some holes like my cracked CeeBaileys.

It was a toss up between the Parabellum and the California Scientific. I like the vent on the CS, but the upper support on the Par. won out in the end.

Glad you like it.

For a second I thought that was Steven Spielberg. Seriously. I was like "COOL! Steve rides a Uly too!"

Let us know how fast that thing cracks and flies off. Four little 1/4-20's will not secure that sail. One good side blast from a semi is going to destroy that thing. Do yourself a quick favor and get some extra supports for that shield because it will break right off without them.

Did 80 miles yesterday, on state 2 lane highways, and had a least 10 good side blasts from semis. My 92 FLHTC had a larger shield and I had 8 years and 60,000 miles with no breaks. Will update you if 11 is the magic number on side blasts.

That was just some "Holiday Inn Express" advice.

I do see that you live in God's country. I grew up in Iowa City. Great state.

I know the picture is hideous, but what do you think of the windshield?

It doesn't look bad. I assume that the cutout in the middle of the shield relieves some of the pressure. Let us know how it affects fuel mileage, and how you like it as the miles accumulate.
Me, all I want is for someone to make a stock dimensioned windshield in a dark tint.

I'll bet you could tint your stock windshield really easily with car window tint. In fact, that sounds pretty damn cool.

Bill, have you tried the Buell tall windshield by any chance? I put one of those on and took it off after only a couple of rides. It moved the air stream up off my chest and into my face where it buffeted my head around. Now it's just collecting dust in my garage until I get motivated to sell it. Being 6'2" on a standard 06 seat, I wonder if the CS windshield would do the same thing?

Sanchez: Never tried the Buell tall. Was considering it for summer use. I'm 5'10", so I imagine the medium height shield would hit you the in the same area as the tall Buell. CS also sells a tall shield. Contact Mark at www.calsci.com. He was very helpful with any and all questions.

Electraglider: Live in the river rat town of Muscatine. I refer to it as a great place to be from. Just kidding. It's best attribute is the ability to be out in the country in less than 5 minutes, and that rush hour traffic is 6 cars at a stop sign.

With about 800 miles on the Cal-Sci shield the results are good. Plan to leave it on full time. Figure I lost about 4 MPG but the comfort is worth it.

Wildwilly,

I bought an '08 Uly about a month and a half ago. Love it. Added Buell's hard side bags, went to Corbin for a custom fit seat, and now I'm considering a Calsci windshield after trying the Buell tall shield and returning it on a recall. I didn't like that I had to take it off the bike in order to clean the bugs, etc. from between the windshield and the fairing. That meant removing the two screws that mount it to the fairing after removing the six screws that hold the fairing to the bike. Too much work.

How do you clean that area on your Calsci?

Sorry to hijack a thread, but Sanchez, let me know if you decide to clean that Buell tall from your garage!

No longer have the Uly, but did not remove the shield to clean it. Thin soapy towel fit between fairing and shield. Rinsed the soap off and dried it with a thin dry towel.

You can paint the backside of your stock unit and you end up with a shiny black shield that doesn't scratch.

Cal-Sci tall shield owners. It's a year later... still happy?? My tall Cee Baily broke and I had some dissatisfaction with it. I contacted parabellum and they said they didn't make a shield for Ulysses Does someone own one?

That's funny, how long ago did you contact them?. Parabellum took my order for a Uly windscreen this morning and said it will be shipped Monday. They list a Uly screen on their website.

Have a 2006 Ulysses. Absolutely adore it except for the windscreen. I have the Buell tall one but it feels like my helmet is being pulled off once I get above the 70 mph mark. I'm 6'2" 200 lbs and looking to buy a taller one. Some advice would be appreciated 12", 14" or 16"?... Thanks!
