You guys are ruthless!  Some how I knew the focus would get off the point. I just could not believe how much stuff fits into those bags. Liners would make things a little easier when loading the luggage, but the only liners I have found made specifically for these bags are $70 each. BTW, the hamburgers, wings and brats are on tomorrows shopping list. When riding motorcycles, balance is a good thing!  | ||

I know that I can carry clothes for a week, an extensive assortment of tools, 2 quarts of oil, extra winter riding gear(electric vest, heavy gloves, liners for jacket & pants, wind blocker for my neck) and 20 souvenir T-shirts from Daytona in my saddlebags. | ||

Maximum - the liners we purchased are great. They are a little on the expensive side, but well worth the money. It really makes life so much easier when packing for an extended trip. Open the hardbag, take out the liner and go into your hotel or wherever you're staying. If you purchase the liners, be sure they are tucked into the hard bag well. If not, you will surely say goodbye to a latch. | ||

Same ones. We purchased them from http://www.eurotechmotorsports.com/. They carry all the accessory pieces that Daves couldn't get for us when the bag was scuffed while sliding on black ice. We've had the liners for a year now and they are good quality and make life much easier for traveling on the Uly. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you buy them. | ||

Left side bag: 2 man tent, camping pillow, ground cloth, sleeping bag, stakes, etc. Still not full. Right side bag: Tennis shoes and extra clothing for several days worth of travel. Top case: Extra jacket (I take a mesh jacket and a 'real' jacket on all trips to deal with significant weather changes), maps, digital camera, snacks, hat, anything I else I want easy access to when pulling off the road. Room left over. The Ulysses has outstanding luggage carrying ability. However, do NOT put a 2 liter bottle of water in with your luggage while riding down West Side Road (gravel, rocks, sand, stutter bumps, etc.) in Death Valley. I use mine as a grocery getter, among other things. People just sort of stare when you put an entire load of stuff in the bags and ride off. I like to park in front, too. | ||

Damn, your rabbit must be huge! The liners I use are GIANT ziplock baggies. They are heavy duty plastic (blue tinted). Seal weather tight. Available at Wal Mart for under $10 for a bag of 4. Has anyone seen these things? Best of all, I get a new set for every road trip! | ||

They assist in external loads other than passengers too. Last fall I bought a new weed eater and toted it home on the back seat and across the tops of the side bags. The box was 1 foot by 1.5 feet and 6 feet long. It weighed about twenty pounds. I had to be careful of the aero drag and using as much lane as a small car.  | ||

About liners: I just received a couple light weight nylon bags that I ordered from Aerostich. It turns out that they are nearly perfect as liners for the Uly side luggage. They almost fill up the entire bag, and they only cost $17. We'll see how well they hold up in the long run.   | ||

Maximum, I just bought my Uly with the hard bags but have not used them yet. I am concerned about their watertightness. The bags you have are not waterproof so I take your experience to be that the saddlebags are watertight. Am I correct? That would be a nice feature. | ||

I have ridden my Uly through heavy downpours, and the bags stayed dry. However, there have been a few people who have had some leakage, but I think it was mostly on the early production bags. Before you assume your bags are watertight, I'd suggest you take a garden hose and see if you can get them to leak. | ||

Mine stay on the bike all of the time and with 12000+ miles, many in heavy rain, have never leaked yet. | ||

GotJ: Just like the others have said, the Uly luggage is designed to be waterproof. If there are things that I want double protection for, I will pack those items in zip lock plastic bags, then stuff the smaller zip lock bags inside the bigger main bag. | ||

I wonder of the Aerostitch bags and a heavy duty coating of Scotchguard would do the trick. A small bit of moisture could be thwarted. | ||

I use the vacuum pack bags, they save space and are waterproof as well. Got them at Walgreens and Amazon.com Oh and we put a case of water in each bag and a 5 gallon gas jug fits the tailtrunk rack nice. It's our pitbike/supply bike in Daytona and other race tracks  | ||

Got 14000+ on my Uly with bags taken off once. I keep all my riding gear in the bags when not in use. Many nights in the rain and have never had a leak. I like the idea of the inside bags from Areostitch, might make packing for the weekend trips a little easier. Might have to invest in some of them. | ||

One more vote for the vacuum bags. Reduce the mass of clothing by 50 percent and are waterproof. I actually prefer to unlatch the bags and bring them into the hotel room. Use multiple medium size vacuum bags so you only "unzip" what you need. A set is usually good for one season. Still kinda miss my givis I had on the FZ1, not as attractive, but you could put two full face helmets in one side case. |
