Can you wire the head lights so that the low beam will stay on when the high beam is turned on? If so, any "down sides' either legally or electrically? | ||

I found a site that had very clear instructions on how to take one wire from the Euro light and switch it with the low beam wire. You have the use a pick tool to get the wires to come loose from the connectors and then just plug them back in. You will need to take the headlight assembly off the bike but that easy. Just 3 screws. When I get home I will find the paper that I printed out and post it here. | ||

on my cityx there is a plug just above the headlight assembly, I swapped out the yellow and orange wires by pulling the pins out of the plug. what you are doing is running your low beam off of the euro driving light(that usa models do not have in the housing) wire so when you turn on your high beams the low stays on because the driving light is always on and when your low beams are on you are actually running off the drving light wire. thats sounds silly after reading it myself but it works fing on miine. just swap the places of the yellow and orange wires at the plug. then you will have both on with high beam and one on with low beam. | ||

Watch the temps running two filament bulbs at once. It gets really hot, and while it may not melt down the housing immediately, it could trash it over time. I have not tried it, but used a non contact thermometer to verify that it was getting VERY hot. Of course if you did melt them, they probably melt in the back, and you could probably retrofit some sort of aftermarket setup into them after the stock reflectors have been melted away to nothing. The stock setup would become just a decorative (melty) shell. | ||

I did the wire swap on my Ss and only use the brights at night. The housing gets really hot and to me, both lights on during the day doesn't make you more visable sense both bulbs are the same wattage. | ||

I did the mod described above, very easy. I attached the jumper in the headlight housing as it was less cramped in there. glad I did the mod. T3 | ||

I have the same the thing done on my CityX with no issues, and I usually run brights (and therefore, both) when I am on the freeway. The Lightnings don't have the same heat issues as the Firebolts. --Sean | ||

I have also done the mod, and use two H7 Bulbs, 65W, H9 Burner, 2100 Lumens by Osram. Over 6 months of mostly high beam and 5000 miles with no issues. These bulbs are way brighter than the stockers. http://www.rallylights.com/hella/H7.asp | ||

Treadmarks- Are you using the 2 H7 bulbs in the stock high and low housing-if so- where are you using the H9? I use the 2 H7s. For some reason they are listed as H9 Burners from Osram.  The headlights are like twice as bright with these bulbs in them. I am still not satisfied with the headlight's performance, even with the super bright bulbs. I believe it is the reflector's design that is holding us back. Project "DEATHRAY" has already begun for me. Pretty soon we will hav an affordable non-HID lighting solution that retains the stock appearance of the Uly's lights.  | ||

Like Treadmarks, I am also using the Osram 65 watt H7 in both the hi and low beam. It is a H9 bulb factory soldered to a H7 base. They are a good compromise between lumens versus power consumption. They are much better than stock but you can never have enough light. HID would be the next logical step. I also have a set of PIAA 004XT 55 watt driving lights mounted. They are excellent for their size. | ||

I just installed a set of PIAA Xtreme White H7 bulbs. They are rated 55 watts but put out the same as a 100 watt bulb. That's according to them of course. It's so cold, especially at night, I haven't had a chance to try them out, although just seeing them in the garage they look pretty damn bright! | ||
