Hey, Peter, didnt they have any black ones in stock? Ha! Didnt realise there was like rivalry between nth & sth islanders... (dave, you should treat all buell owners as equals!) Spose its like that between n.s. welshmen & victorians over here... Sorry Ray, sorry tel (tas), just havin a little fun!
Off the point briefly, went riding today, me on the 12x, 5 beemers, 1 yam , 1 honda, 1 HD, 1 duc. Comments from the usually snooty bmw crowd while chasing me up the mountain were most appraising! "wow that thing tracks & corners unbelievably! A joy to watch". The guy on the HD wanted to know what id had done to the motor as he thought he should be able to outrun me on his screamin eagle...
A good day out.

yeah dave, just read the jan 07 edition [kiwi rider] today always a good read good to see you managed to mention the uly in my best of 2006.Interresting to read in the best of 2006 other bikes page the poms gave the xb12x rubbish reports i`m quite surprised I havent read any bad comments anywhere. In the otago area i know of only 2 other ulys, so not so many people have seen the bike in the flesh, any bikers who make a comment usually say i have read very good reports.Tell me dave, do you take yours on any of those adventure rides they have up north? surprisingly they handle the gravel very well.

No - I don't take the Buell on the adventure rides - I do a lot of dirt road touring on it, but am fortunate that I have access to the magazine's machines that are better suited to the task.

It's the tyres. If you could get some 180 section - even 'soft' knobbies like trailwings - I'd be up for it with Stretch and Vege, but they go too hard out for heavily cut tread road tyres.

No probs if there is any sort of road involved, but trying to keep up with those two off it - there's better choices.
I used the triumph scrambler for the last one and loved it.
I'm making a 'video' of that now - heres the jpegs so far:

I have some more vids on my site today too - adding more shortly:
