On my xb9, it was apearent from the very start that I would need to change the bars so that I would have a better fit in the cockpit. I did this using monster bars, and it made a huge difference. On my ULY, I have been a little less convinced that I needed to do this right away, however I found myself down at TJ's, a local shop I used to use more frequently when I was riding in the dirt, asking them about lower bars...

I recall at least two threads (that I can't seem to find in my preliminary searches) talking about both lowering the bars, and finding a higher bar. Since the raising the bar is right out... Who here has but a medium rise on their bike? I was looking at what the shop had in stock, and it looked like the height was right, but I was concerned that they were a little narrower & possible would add a 'tank slap' feature that I would like to avoid.

If anyone has added a lower rise bar, I would love to know what you put on, and how it fits, etc... I have monkey arms, what can I say? Pics would be great, but I'm primarily trying to find someone who has done the R&D for me & can point me in the right direction.

When I bought mine I ordered a CityX bar also, thinking I might prefer a lower and narrower bar like I was used to that would still appear "Uly". After riding the stock bike for awhile I decided it wasn't needed.

Since I've fitted '07 lower seats to my '06 though I've reconsidered from time to time. The height and bar reach with the stock '06 setup was ideal for me, with an '07 seat it's horizontal and a little weird to me.

You might look into the CityX bar, since it's factory XB you shouldn't have any problems with any interference.

Hey warbaby, youve had medium rise bars for over a month or so now, I like the look, but whats the verdict? Were they renthals? do they have a style/name/part no?
Im 6'2" & dont mind standing up on the pegs... Would this mod make this more difficult or uncomfortable?

I have Renthal's Medium-Rise #9180 from Al at American Sportbike. The Medium Rise bars are perfect for my purposes but...I have a `06 low seat, my Uly is lowered, and I don't ride off-road. My bike is purely for sport/touring (primarily sport) and the stock high bar put me in an odd position with my mods. If I were to use the bike off-road, I would prefer the factory bars.

There is a good discussion about this, with comparative handlebar pics, here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/133779.html

If I were to go with the lower bars, am I going to have any problems with routing cables?

I hope not...I had no problems with the medium-rise bars although it is necessary to "adjust" the various cables to the lower bar arrangement. All cables will be a bit too long but a tug here, a tuck there, and some tie wraps made it all good for me.
