Ah, 'twas not me. Test fit of the prototype by Mr. Caribou, volunteered by Chili. He does very nice TIG welding.

He has some 4x4 applications in mind, one of which would REEEEEEALLY solve a problem for me. As in, how to secure tools in an open vehicle, make them accessible, not interfere with camp packing or sleeping space, and be ultra trick as well.

what model # Pelican is the case your fitting to the rack? If one was to think the case is to big or small for ones taste will a smaller set fit? Bigger is always better. Is there a top case rack in the works? id just like to get ride of all the stock buell crappy latches(4 broke and replaced for free so far).

http://www.pelican.com/

They have gobs of sizes to fit all of your storage needs. Very sturdy, water tight, user modify-able foam (ie. for photog type stuff). I've used several at work and all had top notch fit and finish.

PS; this was an (regrettably) unpaid endorsement!

Hey Red Chili,

Thanks for donating some Uly time to Roger!

Do you have any pics with the bags off and the frame on the bike?

Nope. I had to twist his arm to take these cellphone pix. I told him it would be cool, like spy pix of the liquid cooled OHC 1300cc 2008 Uly.

OOPS!!!!! I mean, um... nevermind.

I can tell you that they are well engineered, quite rigid yet light and minimalist. Very finely welded too. And that you fellers who've removed your grab rails will need to reinstall them. : D

They are tough indeed. Not quite as much capacity as the Buell bags, but very tough, scratch and flop resistant, weathertight, and don't stick out too far at all.

And yes, the latches are beau coup tough.

Chili
Is there a top rack in the works? Maybe one just big enough to put a real tool kit in.

Most definitely. Quickly, accessibly and cleanly. The remaining brackets are not ugly and are not a loop.

It is really a very flexible and robust system. He is looking at 4x4 applications (you can tell I am interested just by looking at the pix above) for tools, etc. Locked, accessible storage is important in open 4x4s. I hope to be an early adopter of these and might even write up a review on 4x4wire.com when he gets them done. Part of the appeal is, he can make bolt-together kits, or he can make a mostly-made kit that the end 4x4 owner can finish welding, modifying or whatever to suit his/her needs.
