...not to buy a new Ulysses!

Howdy everybody! Been lurking in the shadows for a while now and reading all I can about the Uly, and if half of the good reports I read are true then it is one awesome bike. It seems to be just what I've been looking for to enjoy the beautiful, twisty roads here in northern California. All I'm waiting for is a chance to demo one at the local dealer to see if I really like it. It seems like they addressed a few minor first year "problems" with the '07 model. So really the only thing that would stop me from buying a Uly is if it had a bunch of shortcomings that would be improved on next years model, but from what I read I can't think of what it would be. Sounds like it handles great, is very comfortable, has plenty of power, and works well for both short jaunts and longer distance touring.
So back to my question: ANY GOOD REASONS NOT TO BUY ONE?

I can't think of any....unless you don't like having a big smile on your face every time you ride. I took my 06 for a test ride on tuesday, traded my Road King in on it Thursday....I like the Uly so much I went back and bought a 07 Firebolt. 2 Buells or 1 Harley....I'll take the Buells any day!

Perhaps if you're 4 feet tall and chronically depressed I would not work for, or affect, you.

If you're going to have to rob a bank or other financial institution before buying one, I'd seriously give the decision some thought. If not - what are you waiting for?

I wish I would have known about the Touratech stuff before I bought my stock side and top cases. I hate the clam style.

Ulysses = Crack

It will cost you your wife, your family, your house, your job.

You will just start riding one day and never come back. It's really ugly what it does to people. Normal people. People who would ordinarily be quite responsible.

You see them sometimes. On the street corner trying to score a dime bag of gasoline or maybe a nickel or two of Formula+.

No, Black Uly owners love their bikes enough to farkle more.

Who the hell puts farkles on a school bus? ;)

I think those Tour Tech side boxes look like something an EMT would deliver transplant parts in. I like the Buell ones better. Very subjective though I'll admit.

Great bike; but, ... if you want to work your way along miles of Forest Service roads in the summer to enjoy to serenity of it all, you may be disappointed by the loud fan. It you intend to blast along all the time, it won't bother you. I couldn't live with it.

At 6'3" you are perfect for the bike unless you are all torso with a 18" inseam and if that is the case then I'd like to recommend you to Barnum and Baileys. Seriously though, you'd love the ULY but realize that we like to point out the flaws of this bike here on BADWEB with the hope that Buell does something about them. Like any bike, it ain't perfect but it sure is fun to ride. It'll help if you are handy and can do the maintenance yourself but that can be said about any bike. Give it a try, overall you'll be pleased.

On a little more serious note... Is the fan really that loud that it would be annoying while you were riding? I guess I'll find out when I test ride if it's warm enough to make it come on. What is the possibility of a quieter replacement for the fan?

WB,

I looked like crap before the Uly, so there is no difference before and after for me.

As far as the fan, it either will bother you to the point of not wanting the bike or it won't. I myself have no problem with the fan. I don't mind the noise. I usually ride with earplugs and can barely hear it.

It's just not that big of deal for me. You will know when you test ride one. It will either be a show stopper or a non-issue.

There are no "quiet" option fans. Some have used right side air scoops (RSS) to inrease airflow and reduce fan run time. The jury is still out as to whether it creates problems or not.

YOU DO NOT WANT TO START A FAN THREAD. It's a humping dead goats issue.

First off there is plenty good info on humping dead goats. Fan noise is really no big deal to me at least. It lets me know that it is doing its job.

It is when you DON"T hear the dead goats being humped.....oh crap...I meant the fan.... that you have a problem!

Just get old you won't hear nothin!

Buy the damn black one, farkle your guts out, get a matching suit consisting of meat gloves and a meat sweater and of course the meat boots and don't forget the meat helmet.

Then ride it.

Then when you're stuck at work, sick, its below 32F and raining, if any problems arise, or you just feel like it, you can come back here, start a new thread, and tell us just how much your face hurts from your first case of permagrin

I refer to the humping dead goats in the light that such activity is one which neither anyone wishes to witness nor participate in.

That said, there are still those who are closet and even overt dead goat humpers and chose to seek out environments in which the humping of dead goats is available and encouraged.

You know who you are, humpers of goats. We know who you are, humpers of goats. Veil not your dark goat humping desires in threads about right side scoops.

WE KNOW THERE IS NOTHING RIGHT NOR RIGHTEOUS IN YOUR DESIRES!
