Bolted on a touratech mount for my Garmin 2730 today and installed the laminar lip.

I'll put in the underseat bag tomorrow.

...I and ordered a power cord and centech fuse block. I'm thinking that the best place for the fuse block would be hardwired to the battery, under the seat, near the forward side of the underseat cavity...?

What do the grips draw and should I try and run them through the fuseblock or directly wire them to the battery?

Also, do you know if anyone makes a clock and thermometer sort of like a formotion product that will bolt onto the handlebar crossbar of the Uly?

Any idea of whether the Touratech panniers are any good?

Life is good.

However you power your grip heaters, make sure you run them to a relay triggered by a wire that is hot when the ignition is on. Trust me you WILL forget to turn the heaters off and you WILL return to your bike with a dead battery. The relay will prevent this heartbreak.

I'm in the middle of a rewire also. Put in a centec and mounted it under the seat inside a mini moisture proof pelican case. Used a relay to trigger it with the (ignition switched) trigger power coming off the rear power outlet. I run everything through the fuse block that I want switched to the ignition and hot off the battery if I want continuous power.
No experience with the Touratech panniers but if you are looking for that style bags make sure you check out Happy-trails...they have been great.

Not sure if this is what your looking for or not. I have no experience with this product but some long distance riders have given positive reviews elsewhere.

Depending of the type of heated grips used most are in the 36-50 watt range. I wired mine off the front accessory outlet as my Polly's draw 3 Amps max and usually much less due to the heat troller.

I just installed one of those 5 function gauges, works pretty well, about as accurate as my Craftsman Multimeter that was similar in price. Nice to have a clock that you don't have to mash buttons to get to.

Installation tips:
I took mine apart, changed the routing of the power wires to go out the back. Make sure you keep track of all the little switches. I coated the switches in Silicone Grease while I was at it and put silicone RTV on the seams in an attempt to help waterproof the device. I shortened the Thermometer wire (about 5 ft long to start) and mounted the probe to the right of the headlight, where it is in the slip stream. I used the rear knobs off a Pirelli MT-21 and some industrial velcro to make spacers so it would ride above my Speedometer. All said it works pretty well, my only concern is I have noticed the voltage dropped a few tenths over the course of a week, so I will probably be keeping an eye on it.

Hey Flynuly,

Thanks for the link to that, that 5 in 1 device should work out great.

Just out of curiousity, why did you use the pelican case with the fuse block? I remember reading somewhere that the centech block was weather proof...

Old_mil,
I'm planning a ride to Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay, AK in May-June 07 and wanted the extra protection from dirt and water. Noticed that quite a bit of sand ends up in the area under the seat when riding off paved roads around home. Will let you know next year if it was a waste of time or not. Only attached the pelican with velcro so it's easily removed without a trace.

For a clock I bought one of the Formotion stick ons (the small one) and stuck right next to the headlight switch. I got the white face one and I can tell the time at a glance.
Didn't think the little one would be big enough but it is. Keeps from cluttering up your bars.
