Having a hard time getting me dealer to set the bike up right - 07 Uly.

Got it home first day, (bike delivered) wouldn't start - it would fire up, backfire a bunch of times (loud!) and then stall. Back on the truck to the dealer sigh.

The adjusted the TPS setting (that's what the mechanic told me at least) and brought it back again.

Fired up fine the first time, rode it for a few hours (fun!) and stopped for coffee for 1/2 hour. Bike wouldn't start and when it finally turned over, it seems rather rich and kept stalling. Eventually it fired up and i road it home.

Bike sat for a few days and the rains finally broke so i went to fire it up after work last night - won't turn over.

The dealer's coming to get it next week and will look at it again, but I'm getting a bit pissed off and am wondering if they might be setting it up wrong.

Any ideas of what I should be looking for?

You shouldn't be looking for anything; it's under warrantee!

At least they picked it up for free, right?

My X1 was awful the first year but all the bugs worked out after 20,000 miles and it's been a mostly reliable ride since.
Don't lose hope, I don't think that the dealers actually do much at all to the bikes to set them up.
There is something wrong and they will find it. (hopfully soon-ish)

Fouled plugs?
TPS still not right?

You'd think a good tech would be able to troubleshoot the problem and that the dealership would make sure they had the problem fixed right before dumping it back into your hands. Good luck with it and make sure they understand your displeasure with your purchase. Maybe you should tell them they can give you your money back.

You have every right to be po'd. After months of trying to get my 06 to start reliably and other electrical problems I think I may be getting it nailed down. If I had it to do over again I would have been more aggressive from the git go.

Used to be you could hold off on making payments and have the finance company put pressure on the dealer. This probably doesn't work nowdays.

Have them keep it and ride it till it's right. Check your mileage going in and if they don't have it several days and put some mileage on it, i.e. 50 miles or more tell them to keep it till it's fixed.

The ability of a bike to start is the most basic of things. But no matter what else a bike does well it's no fun when it's no go.

Good luck.

Good motorcycle techs are hard to find. Good Buell techs are like unobtanium. Nature of the beast I reckon.

Orange,

Did you get yours squared away? Did they replace the BAS? Did it do the trick?

Well there's a pretty strong lemon law in washington state - i have to document everything and give the dealer a reasonable chance to make it right - (and to their credit they've been pretty responsive) - but they basically have two more chances to fix it before I file the paperwork.

I just want the bike to start - I can deal with build not being perfect or problems with the engine not running perfect - but the dang thing should start every time and get me to where i need to go.

I'm patient at this point - the weathers crappy so I'm willing to wait and see.

FB, after it died on my wife and I last week I had them replace the BAS. No engine stalls in 100 miles or so. I did ride yesterday, kept it on the trickle charger overnight, when I started it about 2 today (45 degrees outside) it did 2 very slow cranks and then turned over. Started fine the rest of the day but it still doesn't inspire confidence when it is so slow to crank on the first start of the day.

Time will tell. I'll post an update when I get some more miles on it or it won't start...whichever comes first.

Sure do like it when it runs though. Zoom Zoom.

Slow to crank is still not right. Have you had the charging system thoroughly checked out? The VR connector is the weak link.

Mine is also slow to crank over, but kicks right in after 2 or 3. My gps and also radar detector indicate a voltage of approx. 13.8v when running. I assumed that this would act to charge up the battery sufficantly. I am running the gps off the accessory plug on the dash and the radar detector off a fused block I have runing off the battery through a relay. Perhaps I should check the battery cables tonight?

Orange,

You may have two issues. A charging issue and the BAS. If the stalling is fixed by the BAS, you may be chasing down the secondary VR problem.

It is good news though that there was no stalling for at least 100 miles.
