anyone useing a brake light flasher? If so what brand? I Would like to get one- I was reading that being rear-ended is becoming a very common accident due to cell phone users. Just happened to a friend in a cage. I remember the Hurt reported stated that rear ends were not a significant form of accident on a MC, but now that seems to be changing. Thanks

I use the XP on my street motard.

I guess I will get one for the Uly too, as it really alerts the drivers behind you.

Thanks for reminding me.

Just ordered mine, 35 bucks.

If you get one, be sure to get the XP as it is designed to work with LED tail lights.

Looks like a good idea as long as you don't have integrated tail/turn signals installed! : )

Instead of a standard brake light modulator, you might want to consider adding some of these...

BackOFF XP, stuck it to the left frame rail under the seat and wired it to the two orange/white wires leading back to the tail light. Wired it so that I could choose either mode or easily replug it back to stock in case it ever fails.

The web site is wrong, in Mode One I get four brief flashes before the long one, not three.

I have mixed feelings about it, I believe the repeated sequences do catch the attention of most drivers even if it may be confusing them (good). However I suspect a few zoners out there actually get transfixed by the sequence since it seems a higher percentage of these morons actually get in even closer at stops (bad!).

However I like the capacity and I'm finishing up the details for a tidy extra lighting solution to integrate in.

I hadn't ever thought about this much until some idiot narrowly missed me a few weeks ago as he careened his Excursion away from clobbering me and through the red light where he finally got it stopped in the intersection... Since I've been rear-ended twice before at stops on bikes I think that one would have been the final third...

I've been using the BackOff XP also.
Nice tidy compact unit. Easy to wire in.

People behind tend to stop short.
Highly recommended. Cheap safety.

Someone out there also markets a SOMA (Stay Off My Azz) hyper bright LED light strip. The XP back off unit has a load rating of 10 amps, so it should easily be able to support the extra light strips.

I can second the motion on the Backoff XP. Had one on the M2 and have put one on my FXD also.

I often touch the front brake lever lightly to get peoples attention. Even if I'm not wanting to slow much. You can usually see people react to it and back off a little in your mirrors.

Anything that gets a little attention (like the multiple flashes) and gets people thinking a little more is a good thing for sure.

Like others, I use the Signal Dynamics brake & headlight modulators. I find them VERY effective. Cagers tend to stop a fair distance behind me and I've seen people about to pull out in front of me take a second look and stomp the brakes because they noticed the modulated headlight. Great stuff.

The guy that leads our club rides has one on his BMW.
I thought he had a short in his tail light

I got mine in the mail and installed it over the weekend.

I must say in the 5 quick flash mode it seems to make the tail light brighter. I can actually see the cages behind me at night when the red light fills the inside their vehicle.

Post too old to edit but I'm correcting myself here, I spliced into the harness under the seat and left frame rail tying into the RED/YELLOW wires, NOT orange/white!

Sorry...

+1 on the XP Backoff unit. Fair price at $35, solid construction and easy install. I have used similar units on the bikes and I think these brake like modulators really help to keep the cages at bay. Fits really nice in the tail of the Uly.

Have to try a Kisan SM-1 next to try out turn signal cancel and running lights.
