Hi all, This is my first post. I have been thinking of buying a Ulysses for awhile and have a dealer making a pretty good deal ($9950.00 for bike and side bags) on an 06. After reading the posts here regarding some of the issues you have been experiencing I.E. pinging, etc Should I just go ahead and get the 2007. If I get the 06, I would definitely go for the 07 airbox, ecm flash, check on the sidestand recall, the seat block(protects the ecm). Thanks for any assistance and I enjoyed reading the wealth of information available on the site. | ||

I would buy the 07. I inquired about a 07 reflash at a dealer this weekend and they wanted a 07 VIN in order to do it. I have an 06 and I have been thinking of trading it. My 06 has had several problems. It is only fair to point out that there are hundreds of satisfied 06 owners, I am just not one of them. | ||

My '06 has over 31K miles and has had only a few minor problems. I payed over $2500 more than the deal your being offered. My advise: Buy the '06 and join us on 12-3 for the maiden voyage. tale section | ||

One vote for 07. It will have a higher resale always and all the improvements over the 06 = more enjoyment. Life is short your worth it! | ||

Thanks for the feedback everybody Yeah, it is a pretty good deal especially with the bags. It is a new 06 with about 100 miles on it (25 of which are from my demo ride). Debueller: How do you like Downtown HD as your servicing dealer? Any postive/negatives? Thats one nice thing about this area, there are quite a few Buell dealerships to choose from. | ||

Depends on how long you plan on keeping the bike really. Short term turnover would favor the 07, but that is a great deal on a 06 and bags. I thought I had a good deal and I paid close to a grand more than that w/bags out the door. Most of the 07 upgrades are cheap to do (airbox cover ~$33, Fork Springs/Oil ~$50, Seat ~$100), so I wouldn't worry too much about them. With the money I saved on a 06, I was able to get a race kit, bags, and a bunch of other farkles, that I couldn't have afforded if I went with the 07. | ||

As you may know, most H-D/Buell dealers view Buell motorcycles and their custmers as a "sideline" business. With that being said, Dtwn H-D/Buell has treated me quite well. I've had all my warranty work and TPS resets done there. There has been no questions asked when they replaced my drive belt, cooling fan, liscense plate light, sidebag latch, r view mirror, or fork seals. All on warranty. IMO, some of the above issues might have been caused from somewhat abusive riding habits. (but it's so damn much fun!!) Of course if you need to work with a dealer that STOCKS alot of Buell parts, you will have to contact someone far away like Daves or Josh. Overall they have been good. Kevin Garrison, their Buell tech, is helpful, freindly and knowledgeable. The dealership was recently sold to Mike Lamphere. He owns a number of motorcycle dealerships, including Renton Motorcycles, which occupies the HUGE building Home Base used to be in. This may be why the Buells have been pushed from the front of the showroom, to the back. (where the Buells end up at most dealers.) I feel as Paochow does. I also must have paid about the same as him. With the money I saved, I bought the '07 seat, springs and airbox cover and a bunch of other goodies all for less than the price of the '07. I have been happy with my '06. The only problem I have had is cold weather starting and I think it is TPS related. Definitely no major issues at all. | ||

i got my 06 with side bags for the same price they offer you, but mine had 2k miles. so far no problems, i would get the 06 you still have 2 years warranty and also they can perform any recall before you take delivery of the bike | ||

I have an 06 and to tell you the truth I wouldn't pay anything extra to get an 07 over the 06. I have absolutely no complaints about the 06 Uly and have no intention of upgrading a single thing. I did 12500kms two up this past summer and the bike was a jewel to say the least. Go for the 06 save some money and enjoy. | ||

Update: I just checked on a "out the door" price from a dealer in Florida that is selling an 07 Ulysses for $9995.00. Everything included it would be about $12500.00 without the bags. The $1000.00 for shipping didn't help much. : ) I will check out one locally but I'm pretty sure it will be msrp, plus setup, and tax (9.1%) and license fees. The 06 is looking better and better. | ||

Anyone have the part number for the seat spacer that is suppose to resolve the ecm rubbing issue? Paochow: lol...Sorry, its the black one. Maybe I can talk them down a little more since they are selling a slower model. | ||

I'll see if I can find a number on the part. Mine came with the '06 low seat. My bike already had one on the front ECM mount bolt. Even with that the low seat rubbed the plug, so I installed the second one on the rear ECM mounting bolt. That worked well. | ||

Stew Sorry, I don't see a part number, but you can describe it as the spacer that comes with the '06 low seat for that purpose. I recommend two. The problem with talking them down on a slower black one is that it fits in the showroom with all of those slower black Harleys. Therefore the dealers like them more. Don't forget that the head part number changed from 06 to 07 and some have speculated that the 06 was too high of compression ( PING ) and that the 07 head is lower. I'd go for the 07', why start out with with first year problems that the 07 hopefully is cured of. There are lots of things on the 07 that were changed for good reason and you'll not get them on the 06 without paying more for them. Peace of mind is worth plenty. There might even be things on the 07 that were changed that we aren't even aware of. Who'd of known about the head part numbers being changed if it wasn't for Daves?? Well Electraglider why don't you go down and get yourself one of those 07 Ulys rather than the 06 you ride now. After all wasn't it you who said "I'd go for the 07', why start out with with first year problems that the 07 hopefully is cured of". Have a great day all. | ||

I went and did another demo run on the 06 Ulysses today. Damn that thing just hugs the corners. Quick question, the weather around here when I ran the bike was clear and 42' the fan ran pretty much the whole time. I did some regular street and some time on I-5 and some hills around the dealership. Is this normal? The bike has about 115 miles on it. Thanks!! | ||

Yes, it's normal. The fan will run less as the bike breaks in. You will get used to it; after a while, you'll even get to like it. It's the sound of your motor's life being extended. | ||

I thought the fan in reality stayed on most if not all the time once the engine hit a certain temperature?? I cannot here mine when running at highway speeds but it is alway on when I slow down or stop. | ||

I think the fans frequency and duration is more prevalent on TH Ulysses from My experience. It may be the frame difference. I also had an 03 XB9S and an 04 XB12R neither ran the fan 1/3 as much. I personally don't care if it ran 24/7 if it just sounded like a normal reliable quality fan type sound. Fan running = Good Fan Sound = Not so Good | ||

Thanks for the info!! I was a little concerned being that it was kinda cold out. Don't mind the noise just concerned about overheating issues. So in essence, the fan is there to keep the rear cylinder cool? ok..to recap...fan running, good. No fan, bad! | ||

whatever you do, don't make the same mistake that I made! I waited on purchasing my 2006 Ulysses until May 25, 2005. I'm just upset that I didn't purchase it sooner! It's the BEST motorcycle I've ever owned! | ||

Just an update to this thread. I ended up going with a 2007. I just had it delivered on Saturday. As you can tell from the picture, I haven't had a chance to take it out yet due to the snow but I can't wait to break it in.  |
