Fabricated a set of bar end weights for the Buell over the past weekend. I notice substantially less vibration in the mirrors. Before at engine speeds between 1500 - 3000 rpm it was like looking at a blender. A simple addition to the bike that made a big change. Made them to fit with the hand guards.

Nice! I think Im going to get a set here in the near future. How are you holding them in bar? |

I was looking at making a set out of stainless and countersinking the end so I can put a delrin slider in the end of it. I'd put a set screw through the side to hold it in place. That way if you fall over the delrin hits the pavement and slides and can be replaced in the time it takes to turn, or cut off, a new piece. It's a winter project I haven't gotten to yet because of school and family life. I'll post pics when I finish. Is anyone else interested in this sort of thing? |

I was planning on delrin sliders for the axles. I can make a set of those in my garage, with hand tools. Now where can I get some barricade orange delrin? |

If you don't want to fabricate your own, ManicSalamander has some great bar end weights. Good and heavy and they mount very securely. Not sure how compatible they are with the handguards, but I had a set on my other bike, and by the looks of how the hand guards mount, it should be just fine. www.manicsalamander.com |

Try www.hvmp.com they make the especially for Buell. Several have them on here and like them. You cannot use the cartridge bar heaters though if you have them. |

"You cannot use the cartridge bar heaters though if you have them." That is not true. People on here are using the combo with no problem. I plan on adding a set of the HVMP barends in the future and currently use the Polly heaters. The amount of heat that the Polly cartidges put out has no problem radiating thru the handgrip with the HVMP barends. |

JM, I am adding them myself. In order to put the center of the heater element where your hand is, you have to push them in farther than the bar end requires for clearance. I'm actually looking to add a pair of the Rizoma grips because they look cool and because it will give an additional layer of metal between my hand and the heaters. THEY ARE HOT!!!!!!!!!! |

I stand corrected. I thought the bar ends would make the heaters end up deeper in the bar away from the grip. |

The heaters are only about 2 1/2 inches long. This those at the edge of my index fingers, there is a significant (2 1/2-3 inches) of bar left. I think the HVMP bar end shaft is only 1.5-1.75 inches long. |

The HVMP bar ends will work best with the grip heaters that consist of a heating element that attaches directly to the outside of the throttle tube and handlebar. The HVMP bar ends for the Ulysses now sport a 5" long 5/16" bolt that I believe will push the polly heaters way out of effective range. |

I have the Polly Heaters and I think you could mount them on the fork tubes and they'd still be in "effective range"! Like the Bstrd says; "they're hot!" NUTS |

I thought the HVMP's had a long effective length of over 4 or 5 inches. I am interested in this to see if it works. My wife has a Suzuki Boulevard that has bar end weights with a length about 4 inches. I like the polly heaters because it is a simple technology and the wiring is hidden. I am putting the on my Uly but also wondered if they had enough heat to go deeper in the bar with a bar end weight. Any thoughts on this? |

I have the HVMP's and also the polly heaters. Both work great. The bar ends dampen the mirrors perfectly and also the bars. The heaters are too hot on high once the bars heat up, I switch to low and they stay toasty for the ride. I have had them for about a month now with no problems and would get the combination again. |

PSO, You have the long or short bar ends? |

I have in the past discouraged people from buying the HVMP bar ends with the polly heaters, but I stand corrected. Thanks for clearing this up. I am glad to know these will work together. Ft bstrd - the Extra Heavy HVMP 7/8" universal bar ends are the only ones compatible with the Uly handguards. |

Johnny, That's why I asked. I wasn't sure if PSO had removed his handguards or not. If they're the longs, we're good! |

I have the long ones. I wanted to also keep my handguards. One last note. I like these heaters better than the factory ones that came on my GoldWing.Got them from Dave in Wisc. Good price, fast shipping and he had the hi, low switch model. |

I'm convinced that the extra-heavy wts from hvmp are the way for me to go - especially since I will be adding a handlebar mounted GPS with an internal hard drive. But I also wanted to add some bar end mirrors. I have seen a couple different models with hardware that wraps around the bar versus being inserted into the bar end - just wondering if anyone had tried that kind of bar end mirror with the weights. The aftermarket mirrors I have now have less vibration than the stock, but the field of view is either two lanes over or my shoulders Thanks Don |

Good luck with the GPS with an internal hard drive. I orginally had a Garmin 2620 with the hard drive that had to be sent back to Garmin twice for repair they finally took it back and I bought a 2610. This was on my ST-1300 which is a lot smoother than my Ulysses. I now have a 2710 with a flash drive. Anyhow, back to bar end weights, I'm ordering the extra heavy ones and hope my grip heaters still work ok. |

While searching for Christmas gifts, I came across these. http://www.trak-tek.com/products/front/barEndMirro rs.html I like the concept of mirrors/bar ends. Has anybody tried them? |
