I decided that my "XB12XS" needed a Drummer muffler which Kevin Drum promptly shipped to me after he received my stock muffler and I discovered that his flawless craftsmanship is exceeded only by his professionalism and friendliness--thanks Kevin...! http://www.kdfab.com

I also decided to ceramic coat my 2/1 header and, armed with a shop manual, swingarm stand, small jack, and a few cold brews, I dived into the engine lowering procedure at home. The project was trauma-free and even...fun. Working step-by-step from the manual, it became obvious that several steps listed in the manual were not necessary which made the rotation easier than anticipated. You do not have to be a "pro wrench" to do this but you do have to be methodical, careful, and use common sense.

For anyone interested, there are more engine rotation pics at my web site here: http://zenfirea.ehost.com/buell.htm

Happy trails!

I'm most interested in the suspension mods you have.

I've been thinking about my options for when the stock shock is dead. I'd like to go aftermarket and get a shock designed for heavy folks like myself.

Lowflyer - Thanks!

Chad - One way to suspension Nirvana is through a real suspension professional. There are others but my choice was GMD Computrack/Atlanta and I have no issues/regrets.

Etennuly - If it does give birth, I'm hoping for about 1,500 cc's...

How does that suspension ride compared to stock, does it still float over bumps and such, or does the shorter stroke make it ride stiffer like the other Buells?

Etennuly - It is now tuned for a Sport Touring ride with the emphasis on "sport". It is closer to a liter sportbike ride than the factory Uly ride--moderately stiffer, very little float/more planted, no surprises, less brake dive and definitely not for off-road work. It's exactly what I was after.

Lastcyclone - I'll do that.

Yeah....stiffer and more planted. Not what I'm looking for. I get any stiffer I won't be able to move!

When you reach a certain age you try to keep away from being planted. That age also brings pain and stiffness to body parts that used to function with ease(elbows, knees, neck, back, those sort of things). Sorry about not being clear(brain fade is setting in also).
I really like the long soft travel suspenders that are stock on the Uly, I had a City-X and thought it was too stiff for what I wanted. I grew up on dirt bikes and like that feel.
I was just wondering if lowering it that much limited the travel and made it stiffer, or if you had found a way to lower it keeping most of the travel. It sure does look cool with that stance!

Ah-sooo! That, I understand but I try not to think about being stiff and planted--can't litter my mind, `ya know, lest I reassemble the Uly with exhaust leaks, ripped wiring, stripped threads, and left-over parts.
