I know that this issue has been addressed somewhere on this site but I am new to the site and am not really good at finding threads. I am not a uly owner at this time but am in the market as we speak. I have found what appear to be good deals on the 06 but have been reading about the problems in the first year production. I am planning to buy a uly next week and don't know if I should pick up an 06, or pay the extra and get an 07. Some of the 06s are under $10,000 and seem like really good deals. What are the upgrades that need to be addressed? What are the costs for the upgrades? Any help would be most welcome!!!! |

I think the later '06 models had most of the bugs worked out, I know they re-routed some wires, changed side-stand bolts, added a "dimple" in the chin fairing for clearance etc. My May '06 has not been covered by any recalls and has had zero problems to date. '07s have different tires, seat, progressive fork springs, airbox and associated mapping differences, and possibly some other small tweaks. Only you can decide if the $ you'll save on the '06 is worth buying the older model. If I could save some bucks, I'd get the '06 again in a heartbeat. Either year will be an awesome bike. Enjoy. |

I've had no problems with my "late" `06 either although I did install the `07-spec Pirelli Scorpion Sync tires and I L-O-V-E their grip for the street and twisties. |

Buy one of each. May the best model win! Which ever one does not make the cut, please give to Dennis C so he can wheelie a street bike again! (Message edited by dragon_slayer on October 26, 2006) |

I'd heard rumors of an "Upgrade" kit for 06 models to address some of the issues (fan, etc). I hope so. The fan has been the only real consistent problem (other than the sidestand recall). I had a bad pump, and I'm wondering if there isn't a larger Bank Angle Sensor problem. I don't have a beef with first run issues. Most vet themselves within the warranty period and are replaced. Other upgrades are retrofitable if desired (Airbox, progressive springs, tires, oil pump). If you can get a deal on an 06, you can build most of the 07 and still have money left over. I am going to replace the front springs with the 10,000 service and I'll be buying the airbox shortly. Just my $.02! |

If I could get a new '06 for under ten grand including any dealer crap I'd consider buying one myself for a spare....oh the wife just reminded me I can't because.....what?.....oh, never mind, I'm just saying that's a good deal. |

What Jeffs900s said, except mine is a Jan 06 with 13k miles and zero problems. I'd buy a spare, too, but I'd have to sleep with it. |

Paul56 The only problem is sleeping with it? But then you could have more quality bike time, right? |

My 06 was made in October 05 and I have had numerous problems with it. I really like the concept of the bike but knowing what I know now I would not buy another 06 and would think hard about an 07! It is only fair that I point out that I have never brought it back to the dealer for warranty or service work. It is also fair to point out that the bike is awesome when it is operating correctly and even though I have had some set backs I still ride it all the time and leave my Bagger and Sporty to rot. |

I'm in the very same dilemma right now. 06 very, very good deal. Have found many left over in the area. I can order an 07, little more inintial expense, but fewer corrections to make. In addition to the earlier mentioned "bugs" I have heard of issues with the tail light/lense assembly and rusting muffler. I know the Perelli tire is an excellent tire, and will last. How much better is the new seat? What are the issues with the side stand, cooling fan and chin fairing on the 06? This will be my 4th Buell. |

May 06 Manufacture Date? One of the bikes I'm considering was made May of this year. I'm wondering if that would be late enough to have worked out some of the issues with the first year of production? The first ones were made in Aug. 05 I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that is when the model year changes to the next. Anyone have any details about when changes were made in the line in East Troy for the Uly? Thanks. |

Lastcyclone I just don't see these problems to be a large issue unless you have no dealer support for warranty issues. The tires will wear out like any other tires, then put on what you like. That '07 seat is only a little over a hundred bucks. Just buy the bike at a good discount and get on with the best ride you can get for the money. These machines are awesome rides!!!!! |

Coolice, not only are the ORANGE ones faster, they are also the most reliable. Mine has been in the dealership twice, once to be sold to me, and once to have the sidestand recall done. The build date? Aug '05! I have found that when you buy a product there are three powerful forces at work which help determine your thoughts about it. 1) Your expectations. 2)Your experience. 3)LUCK OF THE DRAW! |

Mine's had it's share of problems, loose nut on the crank, sidestand broke, tail light surround broke and they were all fixed without argument, all by a non-point of purchase Harley Dealer! I'm heading off on a 6 week road trip happy in the Uly to stand up to it and Harley/Buell to go the extra yard to deliver if there's any problems! |
