G'day all.....Put a deposit down on an 06 Uly today and will be picking it up next week.Dealer is 8 hours away so it should be a nice break in ride home.I've owned heaps of HD,s but this will be my first Buell.

Anything in particular I should keep an eye on??......Also wondering If anyones modified (gutted) the stock muffler while keeping the servo operational. Are there any "must do" mods to get these things running right?
Cheer's Jack..

Congrats on your new purchase, Jack.

Just keep your eye on the engine oil level and the road...

As for the muffler, I started to but found it counter productive. So out came the valve assy. in the muff; but the servo motor is still up top and connected(electrically.)

I highly suggest that you contact one of the board sponsors, Special O.P.S. or Drummer for your muffler modification needs.

Welcome aboard - do you know what the build date is? Most of the things that have shown up on the early builds have been addressed in the latest '06's.
Revised tail-light, sidestand and headstem loom-guide will prevent some of the little gripes seen with early builds.
However little niggles aside, I passed the 23,000km mark on mine earlier this week and absolutely love it - I'm sure that you will enjoy this machine.

Jack - Welcome to Badweb and the world of Buell.

Only in Australia would it take 8 hours to get to the dealer. The first scheduled service is at 1000 miles, so when you get home, just turn around and go back.

There are no must-do mods, the bike will be fun stock. If you enjoy mods, there are plenty you can do.

Some people have issues with the D616 tires on the 06 model. If you have head shake or swimming issues thats whats going on. Switch to some other tire after you wear those out and those problems will be gone. The 07s come with Scorpion Syncs, so thats a good choice.

Sucker!

We're like a bunch of crack whores welcoming another to the abandoned house!

Enjoy your bike!

One word of caution:

8 Hours in the saddle on a new Uly has been shown to create irreparable facial damage. Please check for symptoms at gas stops. Appearance may be as follows:

Congratulations! I'm envious! Suggest you obtain a service manual so you can do all the routine maintenance with expert precision. Wear-in of primary chain and its tensioner shoe can leave the chain loose in a short time. If you notice a new vibration or noise from the primary case area, you may want to check adjust the primary chain tension even prior to the recommended interval.

We've just lately seen a few reports of loose battery terminals, so keep an eye on those and snug 'em up as required.

Avoid blipping the throttle when the engine is not yet warmed up as we have also seen reports of fouled plugs.

Welcome to Uly world. Check the engine oil hot and it should be about half way up the knurled part of the dipstick. A little low is better than overfull as it will cause a mess in the airbox and possibly foul a plug. If you are 6 feet or under a 07 seat is nice. The stock muffler is not all bad.

Shouldn't it be to the top?

Yep, if you want an oily airbox.

Hi Jack,

Welcome to the Uly!

My 2 cents:

- Don't put any oil in unless you see it low. The readings are very sensitive to bike tilt. Don't sweat it if it is not on the full mark. Just add if it gets to the low mark.
- Set up your suspension by the table in the manual
- It doesn't sound like a Harley with the stock exhaust. Ride it a bit and see if you like before changing it. Lots of Uly riders run out in the beginning and change the exhaust and then change it all back to stock after a while. Give it a chance with the stock can. It might grow on you.
- Do your own service if you have any mechanical skill
- It seems to take about 5K miles to get the engine broken in
- Watch your tire pressure.
- Take a long ride. These bikes are made for the open road and long days in the saddle.
- And finally, always remember, "loud fans save lives!"

Happy Trails!

Thanks for the welcome and advise fella's...
With regards to the pipe.......I will probably end up getting an SS Drummer or wait till Staintune (local) builds one.....but I'll be a bit short on $$$ for the next 6 months so I still might have a crack at modding the stock muffler.
The stock pipe is a bit quiet for my liking.

I agree about the sound. The problem is that most any mod to the stock muffler will result in less power. Not a good trade off for me. Damn thangs too quiet.

Welcome to BadWeB Jack82!

+1 to all the above, you're gonna love your new bike.

That's a lonnnnnng way back home from the dealer! Do you have a way of hauling it home so you can break it in by the book?

Some may disagree but that's how I broke mine in, and at 11k+ it still uses less than 1/2 qt of oil per 1k miles.

Riding these things is addictive... since May I've only driven four wheels to work five times...

Picked my new Uly up on Monday morning and headed off for the break in ride home.Kept it under 3000 rpm for the first couple of hours....varying the revs and working the gearbox.
Stopped for lunch and pulled the owners manual out to have a look.....Recomended break-in 2500 for the first 80 kilometers and up to 3000 for the next 800 kilometers. They are joking...right??
Anway...I decided to do the break-in my way....varying the revs and taking her up to 3500 and 4000 rpm now and then. When I parked the bike in the shed last night I had 730 kilometers on the clock...

Verdict: I feel like this bike was made for me.....Having owned 50 plus bikes I think I might have finally found MY bike. It's brilliant...(but you guys already know that)

Welcome aboard Jack. Hope you have as much fun with it as we do. The one break in item that was recommended to me and I did on my Uly and was happy I did after seeing the results was the 100, 500, 1000 mile oil change. With 730 Kilometers on it all ready you should change the oil now in both the tranny and engine and then again at the 1000 mile service (not sure of the recommended metric service intervals 1610K?). Lots of crap in there, especially in the tranny. Also, switch to Synthetic Oil at the 1000 mile service. Happy riding!

Jack - Congratulations on the new bike. After 13 months of ownership, I still feel like this bike was "made for me". Just think how much more you would have enjoyed your Uly, if you would have bought the faster ORANGE variety.
