I never really like the sweep of the stock ULY bars, so this weekend I replaced them with some Renthal ATV bars, slightly wider, less sweepback and about 1.5-1.75 inches lower. With my short 5'8" height, I figured that it would let me put alittle bit more weight forward and relax my stretch. What I never figured on is how this one little mod would change the way the bike felt. It feels much more aggressive and planted than before. There are a couple of very slow steep down hill turns that I ride quite often-by slow I mean in the 15 mph range. The bike with stock bars felt like it was going to flop into the turns and was very unstable in that situation. Now, much to my pleasant surprise, it turns normally and feels planted. The other thing I noticed, was it seems much easier to haul @55 on in the twisties (not that I am fast at all though). There is a curvy road out past Cooks corner that I routinely enjoy. I normally take it in second gear going up the canyon, and previously had wanted to shift to third occasionally. Now I end up coasting between the turns if I don't shift (which is probably the right thing in the area), but the bike really wants to work it in second and third. I noticed that the rear tire is now completely side to side scuffed in, which used to be about an quarter of an inch in of virgin tread. I used the American Sport Bike plugs for the hand guards-they work fine.

I got the lowest Renthal bar ASP had and put it on last year when I put on the low Corbin saddle. Does get you farther forward and more weight on the front, much more sporting feel. I did not realize Al has bar plugs to fit...my handguards just flop around, d'oh!
