So I went for a short ride this afternoon, to a local studio for an event, and I noticed the check engine light was on (was it bad that I kept riding?). In my mind I was thinking about what could be wrong. About two weeks ago I did the 10k service – was it something I did?

It wasn't until I returned home that I realized the absence of the familiar fan sound. Thinking back, I did also notice excessive heat off the right side of the bike.

Am I correct in assuming that the engine check light is probably on because the fan stopped working?

If so, that’s fine – the fan was making annoying (bearing) noises anyway.

Manage to get a couple of cool shots of the bike while I was out…

Going out tonight (downtown LA) for a few drinks with friends at a place called The Mountain Bar where I think it would be fitting to toast the fan’s service – at 10,500 miles, it lived fast and died young…

Cheers

-Jack

Nice photos Jack, I'm happy to see your pipes are blued about as bad as mine. I was beginning to think there was something wrong... with mine.

When my fan died at 500 miles, the engine light did come on, I too noticed the fan not working and took it back to the dealer. It took 3 weeks to find a replacement fan.

Yep, fan quits...check engine light. My guess is that your when your fan quit, it caused the fuse to blow. I believe that is what actually trips the check engine light.
