Installed Iridium NGK 2202s. The stockers looked fine, was running lean though as the plugs were white-without the tan I prefer to see. This was with an 07 air box, stock air filter, ecm and exhaust.

One thing I did notice was that my front spark plug cable was not connected to the coil. It was about a half inch away, and the spark had been arcing to the wire, the frame/tank and the mounting bracket-judging by the carbon trail. There was considerable erosion on the metal end of the plug wire where it should have been attached. The front plug wire was also worn nearly halfway through from rubbing on the wiring harness.

Anyways, I repaired the wire with high voltage tape and wrapped both of them with a nonconductive shielding until I have time to go back in there and replace them with something better.

The NGK plugs used an 18mm socket instead of the 5/8" of the stockers. Also, the NGK plugs do not come with the screw on caps for the plug wire to attach to, so I had to pillage my spark plug collection to come up with a set.

Since I will be installing my new high flow exhaust today, I went ahead and installed the K&N filter while I had it apart. I must say, the repaired wire and fresh plugs really help the K&N and 07 air box do their job, as the ride to work this morning was the best yet. Much smoother and revs much quicker. I would go on to bet the damaged/disconnected wire was the contributor to the occasional sneeze during take off before.

If you work on the bike yourself, take the time to make sure your front wire is connected properly to the coil, and there is no damage from abrasion on the plug wire. You may also want to check the idle adjustment cable where it rests on the front engine mount, as there was considerable wear there as well.

I know pics would have been great, but it was getting dark and my dinner was getting cold.

Treadmarks, what kind of mileage have you been getting since changing to the '07 air box and stock filter? Any change from the '06? Also curious if any change with the k&N now. Thanks in advance.

Hi Tim,

I was getting about 180-200 till the light came on for the first 1000 miles while I was taking it easy. It has been a while since I have done that tho!

Is that better than with the 06 airbox, or were you getting that before? I usually get the light around 160-170 miles.

That was with the 06 box, and while I was taking it easy.

More like 150-160 with the 07 box when I am not taking it easy. Maybe less with the K&N because it is much harder to take it easy.

I must not ever take it easy 'cause I never get more than 160 mi. before the light comes on. (Bone stock with 13,000 miles). Just asking mileage questions because I'm wondering if the reflash will bring the mileage back up. Thanks,
Tim

Reflash dropped the idle rpm by about 100 rpm which is indicative of leaner mix and I would hope better gas mileage.

When my bike was new, my light would come on at around 150-160 miles. Now that it's well broken in, I don't see the light until around 180 miles unless I'm severely beating it.
