I would like everyone to take a look at their light brackets. One of my customers has informed me that his bracket has developed a crack. I am awaiting more information, but he was using PIAA 510 lights, like the one in the pictures on the website. I prefer smaller lights for less weight on the forks, and less area to be affected by the wind. Please check your brackets, especially if you are using larger lights. I will update as I know more. | ||

Thanks for bringing this to light Loraz, for those who've bought your bar and those of us considering it. Any details or pics of where the fatique occurs? How about the riding habits of your customer? Lots of unpaved stuff to stress the bar? | ||

still not sure. He is going to send a pic. My prototype was of heavier material, and the final bracket is thinner, so it could be bent to the proper angle. I am guessing vibration and the weight of the bigger lights. Work has been busy, and I am going to see if I can duplicate the problem when I can. | ||

First, Loraz has handled this in a first rate manner. Just sent Loraz a pic. He can post it if he likes. I hope it isn't the lights being too large as I spent a lot of money on them and would have no other use for them. As for my riding habits, I had the bike off road once since installing the bracket and that was for only 6 or 7 miles. All of my riding has been on road. The bike has about 10K on it since I installed the light bar. | ||

Ok, I am finally back in town, and can get your new bracket out, and looked at the picture. It appears that the crack started at the bend point on the right side, just outside and below the mounting point. I will look further at a bracket, and the mounting points to see what caused the failure. My initial guess is the big PIAA lights have caused the bracket to stress fracture like bending a paper clip over and over. Duck, if you can wait an extra day for me to see if I can make a spacer to fit behind the bracket to stop the vibrations, I would like to fab one and have you try it. I am thinking another piece of flat aluminum, with a larger pair of holes to match the mounting holes. It only needs to be as wide as the forks, to limit the brackets ability to vibrate, and be pressed back when you are moving at higher speeds. More to follow as I get the chance to study it some more. I will be away starting sunday to thursday, so please bear with me as I try to figure out the problem. James, if I had my own machine shop, I could make them out of billet as well. As it is, I wanted a simple and affordable bracket for me, and anyone that wanted extra lighting on their Uly. | ||

Lorazepam- i didn't mean any disrespect by my statement. i know your providing a great svc. I said what i said not to put your product down i thing its great. i tried to make a ligth bar along the lines of yours and it keep cracking on me. I couldn't get it to not crack so i decided to make it out of billet. your approach to this was brilliant. I know your will figure it out. Sorry if my remark sounded bad didn't mean it. | ||

James, no disrespect taken. One of these days I will get a small mill, just to play and make stuff with. Duck the bracket is on the way, and I will get a spacer out to you later. Had a grand daughter here this weekend, and she sure takes up lots of time, being a very active 4 year old. |
