Called the dealer to set up an appointment for the 10k service. Dealer said it was a 10hr job and would cost $800 labor plus parts. So about $1000 bucks. I about !@#%!#^^ my pants. There is no way I can afford that. Anyone had the 10k done?

I think it is around $500 at our shop. $800 sounds way to high.

The labor rate manual says its a 6.5 hr service on the Uly. Unless the parts are made of gold, I just don't see where $800 comes from.

I just did my own 10k service today - all but the fork oil change (deciding whether to buy the compression tool).

I have the VDSTS cable and software

Taking my time, it took me around 4 hours. The most challenging part was getting to the rear spark plug - not that hard once you take a look and think about it a bit. Went ahead and installed iridium plugs.

It's about more than just saving money...

Cheers

I've said it before. If the service is gonna be that expensive($500+) I'd take the bike into a suspension shop to get the suspenders properly serviced. Make sure they keep their stickers off though. A dealer charging mucho $$$ for service is gonna notice a way to snake out of warranty claims. NUTS

After the sticker shock, I decided to do some of the maintenance myself. Changed the sparkplugs, engine and transmission oil. Called the dealer back and they said it would still take 7 hrs and cost $600 in labor(Harley Davidson of Seattle), and that they charge for 7 hours whether it takes that long or not.

So I am looking for a good mechanic in the Seattle area, I live north of Everett.
