I got 6500 miles out of my rear Scorpion Sync. I am wondering if I should try a Pilot Road or a Diablo Strada next. Syncs have been awesome, but I'd like to see at least 8k out of a rear tire. Any suggestions?

My neighbor has the Diablo Stradas on his FZ1 and seems to like them a lot. He has had them for about 3K now and seem to only be about 1/3 wore.
I have been wanting to try the Conti Road Attacks. I have read a lot of good reviews on them but do not know anyone with first hand knowledge of them.

I had conti road attacks before. They hold up very nicely to abuse. After many a burn out, I retired my rear at 6500 miles. I'd say that is good. The front had 6500 miles and still 1/8th tread left.

They work well once warmed up, but take about 20 miles to do so.

I have over 10,000 miles on my Pilot Roads. I'd give the rear another 2,000 miles before it gets replaced. Those are 95% highway miles, speeds 80-85.

If you're after touring tires, I'd recommend them.

I just took some Conti's off the bike. I liked them a lot. I got at least 6k miles out of them, and they had thread left. I'd just flattened them out running up and down the interstate. These were not the Road Attacks, but the generation before that.

I didn't plan on putting them on the bike. I ened up up with a blowout 200 miles from home. I found an indy shop an took the only pair of tires that fit. But they worked out well.

I have run two sets of Pilots Roads on the ULY, got 5,200 on first set and 5,700 on set #2. Every rider and his roads are different, I got 2,500 on the stock Dunlops, 4,000 on the Syncs, anyway I have the Avons Azaros on now..too soon to tell about the mileage.

I got 5k out of my stock Dunlop. I expect to do a little better than the Pirelli with this Michelin.

I just took Stradas off my Uly and switched to Continentals. I liked the Stradas better than the D616s but I would not recommend them.

Problems:
1. Traction - They did okay when hot and dry, but they would lose traction in wet and/or cold conditions especially on tar strips and painted lines
2. Tracking - The tires follows road surface flaws terribly. The bike was down right scary on the scraped and sprayed road surfaces around here.
3. Fragile - In 6000 miles, I lost two back tires to road damage. Maybe it was just bad luck, but I have tens-of-thousands of miles on Dunlops down to cords showing and no problems. The Stradas just seem to have a glass jaw in comparison to the D205/D207/D616/K505 Dunlops I have had experience with.
4. Wear - Though the tires wore better than any other tire I have used in the past, the front tire flat spotted like no other tire I have ever had. That left ridges on the front tire and the bike would turn like a cruise with radical rake and extended forks.

The Contis so far are miles better than the Pirellis. Though I doubt they will last as long as the Stradas, I like them much better. The Stratas reminded me of the K505 my old CB750 had. So if you want a blast from the past and miss that bias-ply tire feel, the Stradas are for you.

I put a Bridgestone BT20 on mine now and I don't like it near as much as the Diablo Strada. I got 8500miles on the Strada with 2 up and some pretty agressive riding. I was very happy with it and when the BT20 is shot I am going back to the Perelli.

Conti Road Attacks here. I've got over 3000 miles on mine right now and I'd say I'm maybe 25-30% into them.

I got 5000 out of the D616 although I was into the wear bars before that.

I have no complaints about the Conti's. Although I did find out this past weekend that they are not all that great in the mud

I was thinking about a tomahawk with the sport/mile formulation in either the T1 or T3 pattern on the rear (hopefully on a sync carcass) with a original sync on the front. I am thinking about mixing them up so that I get the miles on the rear yet do not have all that extra weight on the front. Anyway that is what I am currently thinking about.

Too_tall - I installed Tomahawk T3's on a little over a week ago. They were on Metzler carcasses. So far so good. I like them. I plan on running them another couple thousand miles and I will write up my opinions.

Some initial observations:

1. The shop I took them to for installation on the rims said it was tough to stretch the rear on the rim. Maybe due to extra rubber.

2. The rear took 11 weights to get it to balance. Seemed a little excessive. The front only took 4 which seems normal to me.

3. The front tire shape is a little strange. There is no real edge of the tread. It just kind of blends right into the sidewall. Kinda reminds me of a racing slick with tread cut into it.

4. Grip on dry roads has been great. Haven't had an opportunity to test in the wet as we haven't had rain.

I will try to snap some pictures of them on the bike and upload them later.

hey Aeholton, thanks for the info. Since you put the tomahawk front tire on, do you notice any difference due to the weight? what style and formulation did you use? The website is a little confusing about that. were you able to choose the model of the carcass? sorry to barrage you with questions but, inquiring minds... thanks T3

Aeholton,

Since you started talking about weights, I have a question. I have had several weights come off of the rim. Are they supposed to do that? I've never had a car lose weights. Should I have the dealer rebalance and reattach? Should they charge me for that?

Too_tall - Didn't notice any weight difference. They didn't give me a choice of carcass, but they do write it on the attached label. My guess is that they will try to match manufacturers if you order both like I did. Ordered them from their eBay store. Found it cheaper to order them as separates (49.95 front + 59.95 for rear + 9.00 each for shipping) than their combo deal. I did email them in advance and they suggested the T3 model for longer life and wet grip.

Ft_bstrd - If you have plenty of tread left on the tire, I would suggest getting it re-balanced. Take it back to whoever balanced it the first time, they should do it for free.
