I pulled the timing hole plug and had the bike up in the air on my mc lift. The timing mark was about a bit to the left of center when the fuel injection cycled which I believe from Davo that my bike is set a wee bit advanced. My only question is whether the bike was at it's front cylinder tdc or if it was on the rear tdc. How do you know if it is front or rear compression stroke?

Sparky is right that is one way the other way is to go around again and see if it is further to the right. A trick that I use is to pull the CPS and look at the orientation of the rotor vane or you can pull the front plug out and you will have a "soft" approach to #1 due to no compression. #2 will have a compressed approach. There is a picture that I took of the orientation of #1 TDC on this thread:

If the mark is just entering the window when the fuel pump cycles go around again and it should be closer to the center on the next revolution. Each crank revolution has three vanes on the rotor, so the fuel pump will cycle each time it passes a vane. Make sure that you listen for the fuel pump on the forward approach. If you go to far, then go back until the mark leaves the window and re-approach. Make sure you index the factory location of the CPS before you move it or remove it. Also, do not over torque the window plug. 120 inch-lbs ( That is only 10 ft-lbs) and no more than that!!!!
