I bought a fuel pump off e-bay for a spare and to show what many I suspect are having recurring problems with involving the engine dying for no apparent reason. My fuel pump was acting up and it was replaced under warranty. Look at the picture and note how the wires are unprotected and chafe against the metal corner where they lay in the channel. The grey wire is the positive lead for the pump motor and the brown/yellow wire is the switched ground from the ECM. Mine had the brown/yellow wire chafed and was causing the pump to run continuously with the engine off before starting. The pump in the picture will eventually short the positive lead to ground if left unprotected. Take note Buell! A 5 cent piece of vinyl tubing around those wires would save you a lot of grief!

Thanks for the tip. Seems XB's have a few wire chafing problems. ECM included. Saw an immaculate White Lightning, I mean IMMACULATE as in looked NEW, at the Rock Store last w/e. I don't want to but I may be retro'ing to gravity-feed fueled motorcycles... |

Yeah I know they're less trouble but I own three fuelies and the Uly has been the only one with a problem so far. It's hard to beat the responsiveness of a fuelie! And I love the Uly! Best bike I've ever owned. BC Steve |

Once again, growing pains of the first few years of a new model. Nice photo. |

Is the XB12X fuel pump mount different from the XB9/XB12 going back 3 years? I hate chaffing ... anywhere is bad. DAve |
