Work really busy lately and I got tired of trying to coordinate my schedule with my dealer's so their esteemed techs could install my new sidecase latches.

Pulled them off and disassembled them, baggied them up and dropped them off couple days ago and told'm to call me when ready to put the new ones on my bike.

Dropped in right after opening this a.m., no they hadn't had time to do the 5 minute lock cylinder switchouts () but as soon as the SM saw me he said they'd get right on it.

Ten minutes later the ASM handed me my new latches, I pointed out to her that they looked and felt just like the old ones, showed her the weakass hinge rings and explained that it was inevitable that these would break too.

I went over and installed them, then I had a revelation (I love those!).

I went back in and dragged her out to my bike. I explained that since I had become aware of the problem on BadWeB I made sure my bags were clear to close and held them closed before using the latch cam. I showed her my fully seated seal and no obstructions on my empty l/case, closed it manually, and held it while I asked her to latch it shut.

As she did so, you could see the point where she encountered the cam resistance and had to apply more pressure to lock it down. I released the latch to the open position and showed her again that itty-bitty POS hinge that was doing all the work when she closed the latch.

Mission accomplished. She understood. She told me that when it happens again just call and they'll order me another set over the phone.

Hallelujah.

good job, I'll have to try that when I get my new latches. Seems like they replaced them with the old style so I was kinda thinking we should schedule appointments every few weeks to have the new/old latches replaced. Kind of a pre-emptive strike.

Is there actually a "new style"?
Seems like everyone is getting the same type of latch to replace the broken one.
Does anyone have the new and improved latch on their luggage?? Just curious....

Can you send me some pictures. I could use them next week if possible.

Thanks,
Court

Court, pix of the broken hinges? The dealer kept the latches as warranty items.

I think some have posted pix of the broken latches elsewhere here though.

Xbimmer, if not, I know several people have posted pics of broken latches. All seemed to have broken in the same place.

Court - if you need pics, let us know, we'll e-mail them to you.

Court - I sent you a PM on 9/14 about the latch that I had just break. I apologize if that was inappropriate. I still have thea broken latch if you need pictures; however, they are on a couple of the broken latch threads.

I rode to the dealer on 9/15 to let them check it out. They told me that they would have to replace the side case (left). I ask them to call customer service who told them the same thing. After insisting that others are just getting the latches replaced, the tech called someone that gave them a tech kit number. Waiting for the latches...

Still would like to know if there is a REAL fix comming.
