I know Uly's are not quarter mile machines but last night I just had to know what we could do on the 1320.

I was counting on turning better than a 13 flat. (Cycle World ran 12.38)

I ran 8 times and 3 were in the 12's. The best was 12.94 @ 106 mph.

I'm pretty pleased although my brother ran a 12.58 on his KTM 950 Adventure. Launches are tough. Even with my balls hiked up on the airbox cover the front feels too light for a hard launch. Maybe if I lost 50 lbs. I could get a little closer to the bikes potential.

Sure was fun.

Next time try moving your legs forward when you launch the bike.
Looks funny but will add weight to the front end.

I might go again in a couple of weeks. I could use more practice. I'll concentrate a little more on the legs forward thing.

At Pacific Raceways (in Kent,WA) they have a event they call "Wenesday at the strip". Some local motorcycle shops sponsor a night at the track where if you show up on a motorcycle it's free admission. To race it's $25 and the $10 for a number is covered by the sponsors. The next one is on Aug 30th. Last year it attracted alot of bikes.

It's alot of fun. This time my sister ran her '03 Concours. She is very inexperenced but was able to squeeze a 14.20 out of it. I think she's hooked.

Yes Dennis, quit lurking and go buy the bike!

Debueller, come up with a strap arrangement to collapse the front shocks. It helps starting line launches to lower the front end.

Slayer,
I've seen some bikes at the strip use the strap on the front. Looks like it works well.

I probally could squeeze another maybe .4 sec with a better launch. I mainly wanted to know where the bike and I stand in the pecking order of the world of the quarter mile.

Next week at "Wed at the strip" on Aug 30, I can pay $20 for 6 laps on the road course. The Uly might be more well suited for that. Great opportunity to flog the chicken strips!

Dennis,
I can't recommend a Uly enough. It's fun on the track, eats twisties, tours great, does gravel, and sounds awesome. (my choice is the orignal Drummer). What a fun bike.

Coming from the world of motocross, there is a kit that can be installed on the fork legs to hold the front end down to give better starts. I had it on my KX500 but do not remember the name of the kit or who made it. One half clamps to the upper leg and a spring loaded pin goes into the lower leg protector. Once the pressure/load is off the forks it releases on its own. It looks as if it would work on the lower protectors on ULY. Hope this helps.

In all seriousness, we would not steer you wrong, would we?

Dennis, the ULY is "The Wheelie King!"
And if you buy ORANGE, fast too! Nuff said.

Hey Dennis; I don't know you, but I do have a Uly. You really should buy one. Even the black ones are O.K. (but they're not as sexy as the ORANGE version)
