I had part of my jacket in the way of closing the top case and pushed on the latch and SNAP! NOT Good...the little narrow piece of plastic about 3/4 inch wide above the key snapped in half...it did not take very much pressure..but anyway...dumb move on my part...Has anyone changed this latch? I am trying to get one, and as luck would have it I have a trip planned to Arkansas Saturday...

Adrian -- Since this has been a problem, would Buell cover the latch? Worth asking, the worst they can say is "no".

Not sure if Daves has the accessory pieces, but if not try Eurotech Motorsports. They carry the latches, bumpers, liners, etc. for the Hepco Becker Bags. Maybe they can overnight the latch to you. Be sure to request your same key code if possible.

Good luck and hope you get it before your trip. When we replaced our latch, it took all of 10 minutes with a screwdriver.

If you have any problem, drop me a note and I can get you one of the new ones in plenty of time.

A "Note" is in the mail to Court....ULY Wife...Did the whole thing slide out from the bottom?... or did you have to change it out piece by piece by sliding the axles out?

If I remember correctly, the entire piece slides out and then in with the new. I believe the latch is held in by 2-4 screws. When we received ours from Buell, it came with the two pieces that latch together. They also send directions with the latch.

Did you send your key code in the note to Court? No need in carrying another key around if you don't have to.

When ours broke, it was the same week as Daytona. We had our latch within days from Buell with a follow-up phone call from Bruce Champion in P&A. Can't ask for better customer service than that.

Gotta love this network!!

Adrian - hope you have a good trip. We've gotten very careful with our latches. I'm as careful with them as I am my china and crystal!

Someone posted that they carry velcro straps along with them just in case of a failure. Murphy's Law, you have it, you won't need it!

I did not expect all this great service...quite amazing....Brat...the latch broke quite easily...it "cams over" sort of and I was thinking it was going to go and then it snapped with thumb pressure..I had part of a black jacket cuff in the way which was hard to see..The Rest of the Story: When I pulled up to McDonald's to meet my buddies for our ride Sunday I "Forgot" to put down the kickstand...Crash..severely bent clutch lever...then when I came out from M/D's I broke the latch...what a way to start the ride...I hated to think what was going to happen next...this is not my usual mode of operation..Senioritis struck big time...Maybe I should take a tour bus to Arkansas...

Adrian:

Someday we'll meet. Do NOT let me forget to tell you the story of the fellow who called the Buell factory in 1996 after his 1996 Buell S-1 Lightning fell off the kickstand.

I "handled" the case as a group of 4 Buell engineers stood and listened.

It was the birth of "Holistic Buell Healing". . . Dave Gess would remember this one.

Brat - I'd take a spare if I were you (if you can). The latch is far more likely to break when the bags are fully loaded...like for an extended trip. Nylon straps or bungees are a must in any case.

Have a great trip.

any of the HB bags will fit the mounts. I understand the Gobi sidecases are awfully close to the rear pegs if you ride 2 up.

I run my lights on top of the bracket, they dont interrupt the airflow that way.

The slider protectors can hit larger lights if mounted facing down. Making the bracket wider causes problems with vibration, and the lights wouldnt be protected by the frame pucks in a tipover if the bracket was wider.
