I'm thinking of making my 9R into something like a Ducati Dark, flat black, full fairing, with grey wheels and frame. I've dented the stock XB9R wheels so many times, I'm thinking about using Uly wheels for their extra strength. Anyway, I need to match the frame and swingarm to the wheels. Any help? Thanks. AutoZone has a grey spray-can paint called Duplicolor "Cast Iron" that has a low gloss, lightly metallic look. It's a really nice finish and pretty similar to the swingarm paint. A good alternate to a special mix and it's rated for 500 deg. I've used it on all kinds of stuff, including the exhaust on my Honda 305 Scrambler streettracker and my kid's KX65 exhaust. If you apply it in light coats over cheap BBQ black, so that it covers completely but still remains porous, it'll discolor (lighten) near the engine but still last quite a while without blistering. Too heavy a coat on an exhaust will blister. Like most spray paints, it doesn't hold up well to fuel spills. | ||

Brownells sells gun parts and has all sorts of aerosol air cured and heat cured metal finishes. Check this out: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=1117&title=ALUMA-HYD E+II The heat cured finishes have to be baked in an oven so you'd have to have access to a commercial oven or perhaps your local Pizza Hut or Dominoe's would let you bake your wheels in alongside the pizzas on a slow night. | ||

I had a rifle done with that, and it's an incredibly tough finish, right up there with powder-coating. Heh, might be worth getting a part-time job at Domino's for a couple days, yeah? Sherm, It doesn't really match the swingarm and frame, but it has a similar low gloss grey color, with a bit of metallic blended in. The wheels and swingarm/frame on the Ulysses are two completely different colors. The wheels match the rear subframe and tail, I remember that we used to have a '69 Buick Skylark in about that same color. Again, check AutoZone as they typically carry about the best selection of "spray bomb" colors. P.S. Use sunscreen. |
