I had mine in the shop to replace a bent front wheel (don't ask). I also was having trouble with an intermittent check oil light (yes it had oil) and an intermittent stalling problem.

The check oil light turned out to be a loose battery cable. The stalling was attributed to a fuel pump generating below spec pressure. They ordered another and replaced it. The tech also noticed spark knock and replaced the points and rotor. First replacement set of points and rotor was defective. Second set did the trick. They also adjusted the lean angle sensor.

I commented that it seemed strange that for a bike owned one month with 2000 miles that there seemed to be quite a lot of repairs.

Does this seem weird?

On a side note, the bike runs like a scalded monkey with no spark knock, no stalling, and no check engine light.

Is it weird to have a dealership actually fix a problem?

That is sweet the dealer was so dang good about it. I do think its weird but at least it was taken care of so well. By all the comments on ADVRider and here I would have thought you had your bike for more that a month FatBastard, crazy. Or maybe you are a different FatBastard, who knows?

Yes and No! From comments made here there seem to be some pretty bad dealers out there, but the service manager at my dealership is very good with Buells.

Bent wheel?

Gives me the idea that you beat the shit out of the bike and it simply has some minor issues??

Or, maybe not? I dunno....: )

I think I hit a pothole. I remember a hard hit turning a corner. I looked and didn't see anything at the time, but the wheel was apparently dented. I am actually pretty conservative and anal retentive.

I have been VERY pleased with the local dealer's service thus far. It took a little while, but it is peak riding season.

replaced the points and rotor

Does this seem weird?

Yep, that would be severely weird. Dude, I think the last HD-engined bike with points was built in about 1975.

Your Ulysses has electronic ignition with no parts that require regular replacement. Hopefully he adjusted the timing to fix the spark knock.

Well, if you truly are a Ft_bastard then I can understand the dented wheel.

Actually, I believe the last HD street powerplant that had points and a rotor had a magneto:

THAT was a nice-looking Harley.

Now Fatty...fess up. You DID crash it into a ditch on Hwy 116.

I know, I helped push the bike out of the mud bank. : )

Then you rode the bike home nearly 200 miles in 5th gear since your shifter was broken. Can't imagine the brutal shaking the bike was taking when launching up hill in 5th gear. I was behind you, and your rear tire was bouncing 2 inches off the pavement from the violent lugging.

I'd say the Uly did pretty good considering.

Of course, mine is in the same shop. Had to have the fan replaced. : (

And no, he's not THAT fat. Just big boned. : )

Whodom, gotta admit...that IS a fine-lookin' bike!

As I recall my dad was intrigued with the XLCH around 1963-64 after reading a review in HOT ROD magazine by Bob Greene in which he ran a high-pipe XLCH in a desert race.

Sorry for the hijack...couldn't resist.

Points and rotor seemed weird to me as well. The last car I had with 'em was a 1975 Beetle. I know the Buell engine is old tech, but dayam!

I am simply relaying what the service guy said. He did only have 3 teeth.

As I said, weird.

Thanks Hargis, ya bastard!

Shall I post some pictures of a certain ride on the Cherohala Skyway? Mine only cost $100.

What was your tally? $5,000?

Glad it worked out. At least the bike is running well. Of course, next time he'll probably have to replace your muffler bearing and Kneutson valve...

They also said something about my "flux capacitor".

I guess it's ok as long as it's covered under warranty.

Better than him telling you to get a "Tailhook". You weren't a Naval Aviator in 1991, were you?
