I am a new rider so I am not going to get to crazy, but I would love to find someone to run around with on the dirt. I am leaving Detroit Sat-29th and will be there -Rapid City -the 2nd or so for a week. I plan on fly-fishing so if you are into this so much the better. Cold ones are on me when the bikes are put away.

I am also planning a camping fishing trip this fall around Lake Michigan, leaving from Detroit-no set date. Did Lake Superior last fall and it was a ball.

I would also like to thank who every runs this site, it has been a great help to me.

I'm not going this year but let me tell you that during the day at Sturgis it gets so darn hot that you had better be prepared. You will be at a higher elevation than Detroit and the sun is very intense. Hopefully you are staying in a hotel in Rapid City. If you plan on camping then do yourself a favor and stay far away from those larger biker campgrounds around Sturgis. The noise from inconsiderate bikers goes on almost all night and unless you have an air conditioned tent you will suffer. I always just go up into the Black Hills National Forest and camp for free. It is absolutely legal but you cannot have an open fire. You just would need to get up into the forest aways and I mean you need to find as high of elevation to escape the heat that seems to be prevalent this year. There is a lot to see in the Black Hills area so have fun. Make sure you take advantage of the cycle demo area at I90 exit 31 in Sturgis. Most of all the major cycle manufacturers let you demo their bikes. Everybody comes to Sturgis to have fun so don't worry so much about bad ass bikers, I'm sure they are around but most will be folks just like you. Have a great time.
