My fan started acting funny. Running normally sometimes and running really slowly others. So, to be on the safe side, I took it to the nearest dealer. Luckily they heard the fan spinning really slow and diagnosed it as being a bad fan. I left the bike with them, and went on my way.

Two and a half weeks later, still no Uly. I called today and the service guy said he doesn't have the fan yet. Says Buell is "really slow" in sending out their parts. He said he would call them, and call me back. Sure enough, he called back in about 15 minutes and said they were going to pull a fan "off the line" and send it to him. He should have it Friday or Monday, then get it installed. So, Saturday it will be three weeks they've had my bike.

Every time I order things from Daves, it shows up in about two or three days. Maybe I should have had them call Dave! LOL!!

Now I've got to schedule it to have the sidestand recall done when they get the parts in. Hope it doesn't take this long again.

I feel your pain. I rode the Glide today and realized how much I have come to love my ULY.

Chad, what dealer is doing the work on your bike?

Lesson learned- never take your Buell to a dealer for repairs during riding season unless it is utterly and totally dead. Buells got by just fine (or as well as a Buell ever does) for years without fans. If worse comes to worse, the Motor Company can pay for an engine rebuild too as punishment for their slothful service policies.

8/17!!! Holy crap!

So, is the dealer pulling my leg on getting the part "off the line"? My bike has been there nearly 3 weeks. I hate making a payment on a bike I can't ride.

My fan isn't dead, it just turns really slowly at times. Not just the "low speed" mode, but so slowly you can see the blades. It makes almost no noise, just turns lazily. It doesn't do it all the time, just every now and then. In fact, the dealer wasn't able to reproduced the issue, but luckily the service manager saw it when I dropped the bike off.

I guess I'm going to go get my bike this weekend and have them call me when they get the fan and sidestand recall parts in stock.

I took the bike to Bumpus in Mufreesboro (since there is no Buell dealer in Nashville...what's up with that??). I either had to go to Clarksville or Murfreesboro. Mufreesboro is about 45 miles away versus 60 to Clarksville, so I took it to Bumpus.

I can't blame the dealer for not having the part since they are backordered. Just wonder why they didn't tell me that. They told me it would take 3 to 5 days to get the part. I was going to be out of town for two weeks, so that was fine. In all fairness, they did offer to let me pick the bike up and bring it back when the parts were in, but that's a lot of ride bumming with gas prices like they are.

Since selling my Ducati and buying a Goldwing (don't ask...long story), I'm stuck piloting around a two wheeled whale when I want to ride.

I want my Uly back!! Believe it or not, it's more comfortable than the Wing for me.

3 to 5 days is normal for Buell parts. Just FYI, replacement Buell parts are handled though Harley-Davidson's parts group. Their orders are completely separate from those placed by Buell for production. It appears that they got caught out on how many parts they had in the H-D warehouse, and so are going to try to pull parts out of the Buell production facility. This would be triggered by a downed vehicle order stating that the customer cannot ride his bike without the part. Good for the customer who needs the part, bad for the customer who ordered a new bike and now the whole bike is delayed.

Don't think there have been a lot of Ulysses on back order since Dec. of 2005. I was in Destination Daytona 2 weekends ago and they must have had 6 or 7 of them on the showroom floor. Our local dealers have them too.

My fan did the same thing, my dealer said the same thing, “The fans are on back order”, and they too called the factory and are having one shipped. The bike should be ready the first of the week. About three weeks, they also did the 5k service and checked for the stand recall, so far my serial number is not included. The tech that works on my BUly is the same one that has worked on my Harleys for years so he’s pretty reliable. So, I’m reduced to riding my E-Glide and going thru BUly withdrawal.

Yep...after owning the Duc for just about a year and only putting 4000 miles on it and doing one track day, I decided it was time for it to go. I LOVED the bike, but it was far too uncomfortable for me and the Ulysses handles nearly as good with supreme comfort.

I've always wanted a bike to "cruise" around on. One that I didn't feel compelled to ride fast. My wife has always wanted a Wing, and offered to pay half the payment. How could I refuse??

If you have an 01 or newer and put the Traxxion front fork and rear suspension kit in plus a 70 series tire it is an incredable bike. The hanlding is amazing and the torques is unbelievable. First gear wheelies no problem on a 1,000 lb bike. I needed to get ride of mine but I miss it. I realy enjoy the Uly and would like to have been able to keep both. Some folks just underestimate what that new wing will do in the hands of a good rider. Some steretypes are hard to break I suppose.

I've been scoping the Traxxion setup. Shock and forks are nearly $2000!! YIKES!

But if it will keep my footpegs off the tarmac, it might be worth it.

The wing does have impressive torque.

Chad,

I assume you've seen the videos of Goldwing rider "Yellow Wolf" on the Dragon? That must be the suspension setup he uses, because I heard him say he had $2k of suspension mods to his Goldwing. I briefly met him at the Dragon overlook a couple of weeks ago.

chadhargis-Have you been checking out the
gl1800riders.com board? Those fellows swear by the traxxon stuff. I had just the front fork springs, and the 70 series rear tire, not the cartridges and it sure did make a difference. I had to wwork harder to get the peegs to scrape. Also have you checked yellowolfs video of his run down Deals gap. very impressive. Made the sport riders page and they were talking about imoressive he was.

I'm in Atlanta today. Taking the Wing to Traxxion Dynamics to let them wave their magic wand over its suspension.

I'm off tomorrow, but I'm supposed to help a friend do some wiring on his house. Saturday, I'm going to TRY to get my new rear tire put on.

So...Sunday ought to be about right if it's not so hot that we burst into flames.

As leaset the Uly will be cool with its new fan. : )
