Author Message   Dr_greg Posted on Monday, July 17, 2006 - 09:34 pm:        My Uly (14.5K miles) has been absolutely bulletproof. When checking the primary chain tension (it was OK) this evening I thought I'd verify the "interactive exhaust valve" was in fact working, so I...held the throttle wide open and turned on the ignition...NOTHING. I assume that if the valve had in fact cycled I could hear something. If the valve is really not working, there have not been ANY symptoms at all. The power is good, fuel economy good, etc. This may be the first problem I've suffered in almost 15K miles. Just coincidentally I've been thinking about demoing a GS in the next month or two. I absolutely love the Uly, but...   Dr_greg Posted on Monday, July 17, 2006 - 10:01 pm:        Oops!!! I removed the airbox cover and tried it again...works fine now. Then reinstalled the airbox cover...still fine. So disregard the previous post. Who knows why I couldn't hear anything the first time. As before, the Uly has been the MOST fun, MOST bulletproof, MOST...well, every superlative I can think of... I still may demo a GS just because it only seems fair to ride the bike that really started the whole category. Yep: "a. Hold throttle wide open. b. Turn the engine cut-off switch to RUN. C. GS is more dirt capable but is still a very big, heavy and expensive bike to be goofing around in the dirt 2. Uly is more fun in the twisties 3. Uly is more fun in general 4. GS feels really funny in the twisties... could get used to it but it is strange 5. GS requires Wolfgang to fix with parts from da Mudderland 6. Uly is easy to maintain and requires little maintenance 7. GS is very refined but just not as much fun 8. Uly is just more fun Different bikes for different riders but for me the choice was clear... oh, and the Uly costs about 1/2 as much.
