On my way home from an overnight trip to the Eastern shore of Maryland I got caught in the rain with my semi bald rear 616 so I was being extremely careful and then the bike started missing. Each time the bike would miss the rear wheel would jerk loose and try to put me down. I nursed the bike for about 40 miles and made it home. I think it has a water soluble wiring harness. Once again the Uly proved to be a true "Adventure Bike". I brought an extra fan with me and I had to stop and buy a screw driver to adjust the timing due to some 10% ethanol fuel I purchased but I thought my electrical problem was fixed. I love the bike but the relationship is under a lot of strain right now.

This is weird. I bought my Ulysses last December, and since then, I rode it to Daytona with temps in the teens and snow blowing across the road and ran 95 MPH on I-95 for a length of time; I've ridden in hellacious downpours; I ride it regularly in hot humid conditions.
I've had no wobbles or funny handling; my rear D616 lasted 7500 miles; my timing doesn't ping, knock or clatter; my bag latches haven't broken, and my bags don't leak; my side stand hasn't loosened up or broken; my belt is fine; and my fan still screams happily.
I don't baby my bike, but I don't beat on it either. Why do some people have a lot of trouble, and some have none? I couldn't ask for a more trouble free bike.
I hope I didn't just jinx myself!

Glad to hear that you have not had any problems with your Uly. I thought I had worked out most of my electrical problems. I think the problem is in the steering lock area of the wiring harness or I might have a problem with the coil. I will keep looking and will advise BadWeb when I locate the trouble.

Glad to hear someone else has this problem!
I've been fighting with this from the first ride.
Took it back to the dealer three times with no luck.
I've fixed every electrical problem that has showed up on the forum but still have this problem.
It can be real exciting when it happens on a big sweeping corner!

clean and re-dielectric grease all connections

Some bike don't have much/any in them..

I have pulled apart all connections I can find on my bike and as MB182 says dielectric greased them all. Most all of the connections have an internal rubber seal, but the grease can only help. There could be a small crack in one of the connectors. I hate electrical problems, they are usually so hard to find.

Davo, are you running an open airbox? I always wondered if it created a problem in the rain for folks running that way.

I have a miss on mine when it rains also. Takes about 10 minutes of good rain then it starts missing. I think it is in the secondary ignition system but I'm not going to start changing parts to find out. Buell should have some history on this problem and have a bulliten to the dealers. I also have the occasional total quiting thing that some of the bikes have. It goes in tomorrow but I have doubts if they will be able to find anything. I hope they take a hose to it and then take it for a ride.

Aeholton,

I am totally stock. It feels like a primary or secondary coil winding issue. I am going to flood the wiring harness at the steering head and then move around the bike from there. If I can't find anything I am going to replace the coil. Other than that the bike ran great for 400 miles after I retarded the timing another few degrees. I am running about 7-9 degrees late now and The Uly is running great!......when it is dry.

With a stock airbox in the rain I take an old panty-hose foot and stretch it over the left side scoop and secure with a thick rubber band. Stops some of the water from getting drawn in, and I've never had it hesitate in the rain. But then again I live in so. cal, it doesn't rain much here.
