So there we were, way up in the middle of nowhere, stopped for a short break. When we saddled up again, the Uly died just before I dropped it into first. Ignition fuse was blown. Installed spare fuse and repeated with another blown fuse just before dropping it into first gear. By now, the other two bikes were gone so I began removing covers to inspect various wiring. A dead short could maybe be easy to find. After removing all the covers, air breather assembly etc exposing most all the wiring, inspection showed no sign of a dead short. Installed the headlight fuse into the ignition slot and test fire. Took a short test ride with all covers back on and no seat. No blown fuse. By now the other bikes came back and one left to find more fuses. Inspection of the bottom of the seat pan (low seat) showed evidence of contact with the spacer lug on the ECM mount and one of the connectors. The ECM / connector looked to be cracked and when jiggled it would blow the fuse so I made a shim out of part of a leather saddlebag that would raise the spacer another 3/16" or so, zip tied the connector to the ECM and test rode with the seat on and a buddy's spare fuse. It worked and by the time the new supply of spare fuses showed up, we were ready to ride again.
The local dealership has never heard of this and is awaiting a response from Buell for the proper fix. Am I the only person this has happened to?

not the Uly, but I've got the low seat on my cityX, and havent had any troubles. 4400km total, and I just did ~650km, 120km in rough/off road conditions...

I'll take a look tomorrow morning, and see if I can spot any chafing, just for comparison purposes

I have seen a picture of a worn ECM from seat damage. I can't remember where though.

The standard seat on my Uly rubs on the top of the left-hand ECM connector (looking from the left-hand side of the bike.
I have taken some material from the seatbase where it rubs with the dremel but it still needs some more taken off.
It hasn't actually broken the connector (well I don't think it has) but I'll look a bit harder now based on your feedback.

A spacer that keeps the Buell low seat from contacting the ECM comes with it...did you not install it?

The spacer is there but is not big enough. I increased it's height by another 3/16" and this seems to be working so far.

No word yet from the dealership. Maybe they don't have a proper fix? Maybe they don't care? Maybe I need to set up a meeting with Buell Research and Development and Wide Glide Allen so he can show them how to fix it?

I'm kidding, of course. The roadside repair seems to be working perfectly however.

She left me stranded again. Blew the ignition fuse again and possibly the main. No power nowhere. I'm reduced to riding the other bike.

Hey Eor how did you get a wrench up under the plastic to hold the nut to take out the original bolt in order to install your spacer?

The dealer installed the spacer when my the race module was installed. I have since gotten a low seat, which came with another spacer kit of the same size. I have not had any issues to date. Seat fitment was perfect as well.
