The battery on my Ulysses took a crap last night. Strange as I keep it on a battery tender when not being ridden. Anyone else have a battery go bad? If so, any problem with Buell covering it under warranty? As a side note, when the starter made the click of death sound; the Trip Meters/Clock both reset. |

If the battery is bad they will cover it. |

Daves Posted on Friday, June 23, 2006 If the battery is bad they will cover it. Agreed, "it" should be covered. My (potential) problem is I bought my bike used, from out of state. Not that it should make any difference. But I've worked at dealers (motorcycle and auto) and many times you get less than "fair" treatment in such situations. We shall see... later today. The other thing I wanted to bring light to is the trip meters resetting to zero and the clock resetting to 1:00. I've read that others have had problems with the clock resetting. I'm wondering if "they" had battery problems too. |

I assume you have tested the battery off the bike? The 2 year unlimited mileage warranty is fully transferrable and your battery is covered. Could be as simple as a bad ground. Gel batteries usually don't "go bad" since they are sealed wet cells. For the chemical reaction to stop happening, the liquid in the cell would have to escape, dissipate or evaporate. Perhaps your battery has a cracked case? It's all conjecture at this point I suppose. |

My battery had a loose connections from the factory. It caused the odo & clock resets you describe. |

I am not surprised... I called the local Buell dealer. I was told that the bike would have to be put in the shop, and the battery charged for 24 hours then load tested (sounds reasonable so far.) Then I was told because the bike was purchased in Oct of last year, and only has 1600 miles. That, if the battery is "bad" it would not be covered by warranty, because (and I quote) "the battery has to be maintained." Pretty rich considering it's a maintenance free battery... Did I mention since I've owned the bike it's on a tender when not ridden? They also mentioned a charging system test. What ever. I will try the Buell dealer across town and see what they say... at this point I'm not expecting them to step up either. I have not checked the battery out of the bike. But I can tell you the terminals are all tight, as I checked those when I first acquired the bike. Also, when check voltage across the batter posts while attempting to crank the starter. The voltage drops to < 7v. That's when the meter resets. |

The clock and odometer resetting I experienced was diagnosed as a short/broken wire in the wiring harness. |

Eor, A broken wire is a plausible diagnosis. Did the tech show you where the break in the wire was located? If not, I have my doubts on that diagnosis. (Message edited by teeps on June 23, 2006) |

It is thought to be occurring here...several have had this problem, I believe.

OMG don't get me started on the wiring on these bikes. If there is a direct short somewhere that causes the voltage at the terminals to go that low, you would probably hear it arcing. Maybe your battery is in fact no good. |

Found out I can get a Yuasa replacement (YTX14-BS) for $43. If the battery is no good. For $43 it's not worth the drama to try to get it covered under warranty... |

I'd opt for the drama. |

Electraglider_1997 Posted on Saturday, June 24, 2006 - 11:22 am: I'd opt for the drama. In my younger years I would have too. I've got better things to do with my time (and stomach lining) than play piss on the Hydrant with the local H/D dealer. |
