Everyone seems to nit pick the Uly for its shortcomings, but I'd like to toss in a praise. I rode to work on Friday as I was teaching an MSF class starting that evening. It was about 45 miles or so for me to get to the classroom. Thanks to road construction, that 45 miles took me and hour and 35 minutes. Most of it spent sitting behind a Greyhound bus spewing heat and diesel fumes. The air temp was a balmy 92 degrees with humidity near 70%. I'm sure the road temp combined with the heat of the Greyhound pushed the temps the Uly and myself were enduring to over 100 degrees. I was sweating profusely and the Uly's fan was going as fast as it could go. Finally, after sitting in traffic for well over a half hour, I decided to make my way toward the far right lane and exit the interstate. When I saw my gap in traffic, I gave the Uly a handful of throttle. I got rewarded with a handful of pinging. Having been through this with my BMWs, I knew what to do...don't feed 'er too much fuel. I rode maybe a mile down the road, and tested the engine by rolling on another handful....no pinging. It appeared that the engine had sufficiently cooled itself in that short amount of time. For an aircooled motor jammed up into a frame like the Ulysses has, that's impressive. |

I've found the same thing. Pinging after sitting in stop and go traffic, then running fine after riding a mile or two in good clean air at a decent speed. |

Me neither. Sort of like an ugly prostitute. Doesn't matter what she looks like as long as she gets the job done. |

I have recently discovered a slight ping during heavy load at 3K after long periods of highway running. I am looking at a remedy. I had just dropped a considerable amount of altitude and I think the AVF thought I was still in the clouds. |

They all look the same in the dark my friend. I used to have a truck that pinged really bad. Turned out that the Mass Air Flow sensor was caked with crud. I cleaned it, and the pinging went away. I wonder if the oil spewing into the airbox could be dirtying up the MAF sensor? I know there is a sensor in there, so it's possible. Could be a temp sensor versus a MAF sensor. I'd have to consult the service manual. |

My slight pinging i s directly related to excessive engine heat during prolonged idling and high speed cruising. |

Hello, Just bought a new 06 Uly. Had some issues, where the bike would die after 15-20 miles of riding. It would do it at varying speeds, but predominently at complete stops. After several trips to the dealer, we were never able to identify the problem. Nonetheless, the TPS was adjusted, and spark-plugs were changed. And that was 80 miles ago, so far no more gremlins. However, I have a concern. The gray frame below the "tank cover" gets super hot, hot to the point were you cant even touch it. Has anyone else experienced the same problem. If so, I would like to hear if there is a solution for keeping the body slightly cooler. Thanks in advance.... |

That's characteristic of the Uly, but I don't see it as a real problem for me. Mine seems to be noticeable when it is low on fuel. There are heat barriers available form one of the BadWeb Sponsors - Special Ops. DAve |
