6100 miles on the lowseat and i switched to the standard one. its like another world of comfort. i cant believe how wonderful the regular seat is.

a quick 4 hours today and with the increased 2 inches of padding height, my knees didnt scream and beg for mercy as they were in a better position and my tender hinney didnt hurt either ;)

the only real problem is backing the uly up with your tiptoes. i reckon ill have to back up the orange pumpkin before getting on it from now on.

i also noticed that im eyelevel with the roofs of most suvs and trucks. its nice being a tall bright target.
oh yeah, after averaging 57mph, i was awarded 52mpg. could have been better, but its a step in the right direction.

chris

Thanks for posting that I was wondering if they were much different comfort wise.

Ditto Grimace, after years of being able to stand flatfooted with butt-clearance from the seat of anything I rode the demo Uly ride I took was an experience, and they had installed the lower seat.

I ordered the lower seat just to have in case one of my less-inseamed brothers or friends would want to ride my Uly, or maybe even for me if city riding became a chore.

2.5 weeks now and the standard seat is just great! It seems to have broken in and settled a bit (along with the suspension) and the only parking lot challenge I find is steering lock related. I bought some 10" service boots for general riding and the rubber at the toe works just great for backwards maneuvers.

Eric Buell has GOT to realize that a Low version of this bike (suspension-wise) with XB12Ss bars and street fendering would probably outsell everything else in the Buell line once it got out.

Oh yeah, I also like looking level or down at minivans and the like!

The regular seat dropped you 5 mpg? I'm supprised, but it might explain why M2NC always gets better mileage than I do.

I'm tempted to throw my stock seat on too. My arse was killing me after a measly 250 mile ride this weekend. I test rode my uly with the stock seat and thats the last time I used it. I'm kind of used to sliding over on the seat to flat foot one leg at stop lights now anyway. I almost always back the bike up before I get on it now. Yep, gotta try that comfy perch.

I have to agree. I just got the low seat, hoping for more control at low speeds and stop and go traffic, but the comfort lost and the leg angle are hard to give up.

If they come out with a lower Uly with increased steering lock, I'll trade mine in.

Any word on the changes for 07?

Thanks for that post. My buddy and I were thinking about trading seats as he is shorter than me and my Uly strangely had the short seat on it when I purchased it.

Great Info!

lemme clarify

i usually ride between 75-85mph and get around 34mpg.

in started to narrow things down so i stayed at the speed limit( 55mph 85% and 65mph 15%) the whole tank and was rewarded with 52mpg.

while i was higher up, i was wearing a leather jacket that isnt like the parachute my first gear cross-moto jacket is and im wondering if thatd make a big difference.

chris.

did i mention that the regular seat is an entirely new world of comfort and vision?

My fat ass prefers the regular seat. I am 5'10" and the low seat want worth it at all. Mine didnt fit the mounts well, and it was uncomfortable.

I rode my wife's Blast to work 2 days in a row again while the Uly was in the shop. I thought it would be heaven to get back on my Uly (low) seat last night. My butt, back and hamstrings felt very cramped and I couldn't get comfortable. I threw the stock seat on when I got home and went for a short ride. Wow! I'm going to take it to work today. The worst part is backing the bike out of a tight spot in my garage(hard to move it off the bike cause there's not enough room between the bike and the wall and the car on the other side. I do like the feeling of sitting up higher on the stocker too. We'll see how it goes.

I got the Corbin seat (from Mike)and switch back and forth. I like the dished seat on the Corbin and I think it makes the whole bike look better. For longer trips i put the stocker back on.Being able to touch is very nice but the Corbin needs a lot of break-in time. The fit wasn't so good either- the bumpers under the seat are too tall. causes the backrest tail to lock in place poorly. I don't find the stock seat as extremely comfortable as others.

Okay so I'm the oddball. I actually find the low seat at least as comfortable as the stock seat. It might be a short legs thing. With a 30" inseam, I seem to be significantly shorter than the average Uly owner. The seams on the sides of the stock seat really bothered the back of my legs after a hundred miles or so. The low seat dosent have those seams, and feels like a better shape, even though it has less padding. I also feel more "attached" to the bike with the lower seat, vs. being perched on top of the bike with the stock seat.

Guess that's why they make 'em both. Though I've said it before, the low seat should be a no-cost option. If BMW can do it, so can Buell. Don't make us pay extra for being less than 6'2".

This got me thinking...I have to double check but mine came with the low seat already on it and I think I paid for it. But I don't have a stock seat. I think somebody owe's me a stock seat.

Jeffs900s stated "Okay so I'm the oddball"

You are not the only one, the stock seat is very uncomfortable to me.
I have installed the low seat (2 days ago) and added a Lambswool pad. Seems better but I need a few hundred miles straight to have final opinion.
Decided I would try that before springin for a corbin.. My uly is Orange and the corbin is all black..

Yesterday, I rode 746 miles on my Uly. I can't imagine doing that on my other bikes. The seat is great, as is the riding position.

That's too funny Jim! He says that the stock seat is more comfortable than the low, but I like the fact that he can get a better footing on the low seat.

The low seat I ordered when I bought my Uly 3 wks ago finally came in Thurs, and the original replacement the dealer warrantied due to some weird stuff going on in the gray material came in Fri, so today I got to do a back-to-back with basically new seats. Of course opinions are just that so here are mine.

First off the Low had a black front section instead of dark gray, I like that but the black/orange joint is stitched weird but who cares when you're sitting on it. However my replacement standard looks great and the front is much darker than my original so it gets points on looks.

My BMW R100S has the seat that motomag roadtesters whined constantly about way back then, like a slightly padded board so the firmness of the Low seat felt just right to me. That BMW seat is the best ever designed IMHO so the Low gets the initial support vote from me, but support doesn't = comfort, to me at least.

That is where I lean toward the High seat. As mentioned I also like how the Low drops you down into the bike, while moving that minor 2" or so drop puts me behind the bars rather than above, or so it seems. I've bought a CityX handlebar I intend to fit someday just to try, the idea to move my torso down/forward a bit with the High seat. The CityX bar with the Low seat I think could change the whole nature of the Uly. I saw a R1150GS this morning at the Rock Store set up along those lines, R-bars and low seat, his Pirelli SuperCorsas were ravaged to the sidewalls, looks like he has his formula dialed in.

I don't see how the Low seat can be considered low when stopped, I found virtually no difference in "groundability" from the High. I'm 5'11", 170, thinly built, 34" or so inseam. I had to push my crotch up to the airbox cover to get more flatfooted than I can with the High. So the lower/flatter/wider seat surface of the low will probably fit a larger person than me better. The fold of my legs didn't seem too much changed while moving, but taking off from standstill to get up to the pegs was noticeably different.

Switching back to a new High seat I expected a difference from my 3-week-old High seat but there wasn't any. Any altitude decrease I had perceived must have been due to suspension settling. With my narrow backside perched higher up at stops my legs are closer to vertical without pressure against the inners. This seat fits me better, although time will tell (soon I expect!) as to whether the softer padding will prove as distance worthy as my R100S bench.

Finally the heat issue, and gel/Low vs foam/High. It was hot today in the T.Oaks CA area, high 80's if not higher. Fan running a lot but seemingly less since my 1K checkup and Syn3 fill. I've never noticed heat on my butt through the High seat, although the components underneath get roasted and yes I'm concerned about that. However not only did my more horizontally positioned right upper leg seem to absorb more heat from the rear pipe on the Low than it did on the High, but there is a definite cook coming from below on the Low. Maybe not relevant in most states, but in So CA possibly.

These are my initial seat-of the-pants unofficial personal findngs comparing the two, and of course your results may vary! I think for me I'll stick with the High, and hang on to the Low just because it's an alternative with potential.

Kristi - He really does get better mileage. When we took the kids to the outter banks, we would fill up side by side, and ride side by side. He wouldn't use as much gas as me.
