The Uly does pump out some heat - it was in the high 90's here Sunday and it was my first long ride in jeans only. Guess I will have to invest in the heat shields.

Went by the local Triumph dealer Sat. and they had the Demo truck there. Was just in time for the last ride so I jumped on a Rocket 3, (no 675's there) Man did that thing pump out the heat. It was low 90's and we did 15 miles in city traffic. About roasted me at traffic lights.
The 2300cc's does have an advantage - stump pulling power!! and it did corner better than I expected. I don't know how you could ride that thing all day in the summer

It was 92 here today. Wearing my Alpinestar leather pants...felt no heat even through the stretch panels.

I think it might have to do with the fact that I have such long legs, my thighs are well above the frame and rear header.

I only feel the heat until the fan kicks on. After that I really don't notice it.

Depending on which direction the wind was blowing made a difference in if I felt it as well

On my recent trip I rode through southern Oklahoma with a strong breeze from the left. It was pretty hot (90-ish) and I had to ride with my right toe on the peg (do that occasionally anyway) to avoid getting scorched. Pretty good red mark on my right calf that night. I can live with it, but it's a little annoying.

Odie's the man for the shields. Fast service! I just got a right-side shield. I hope it helps enough for the long ride to homecoming. If not I'll invest in the 'under seat' shield too.

I have been looking at the "Odie Shields" as well but do have a concern.

They would appear to block the heat and thus raise the temps that the ECM and other electrical dodad's (technical term) see in underseat area... I know from experience (not good either) that most electronics do not like heat..

Anyone do any before/after heat measurements with the shields?

Have been meaning to look at underside of the ECM "tray" and see if it lends it self to an dynamat insulation application there. I bet it is a rats nest of wiring tho.......

I have the right side and under seat "Odie-shield". Yesterday was the first real test, temps in the 90's, about 100 miles (highway and local).

Results (er, seat of the pants): The heat felt at the right thigh area was much less than without the shield, still feel heat but much better. Under seat was a little cooler, but with temps this high is anything going to help much? I have never had a problem with heat on the left side (thus no left side barrier) but I did notice a small amount of heat on the left ankle after the fan kicked on. This was from light to light, most likely would not be noticed at speed. The right side of the frame gets hot! Had to stick my knees out to get cool air, no big deal. I can't speak for the electronic stuff (long term
), but the bike ran great.

MB 182,

I stopped by there on Thursday and they had 2 Daytona 675's, a red one and an metallic burnt orange one. I was ready to ride until one of the demo staff started talking trash about Buell.

The heat output from the fan gets better as time goes on. My '03 I don't hardly even notice it anymore.

Ya, Gene the manager of the place gets real nasty when you bring up Buells...

I was looking at a speed triple there one time and mentioned I could get a XB12 for less and it wasn't well received!

I've said the fan cause the heat on my leg and others have said this is not the case. I stand corrected. I rode today in shorts and paid attention to the heat and my thigh was getting uncomfortable and then the fan kicked in and the heat receded off the gam. But then eventually the rear section of the gas tank that surrounds the rear cylinder gets mighty toasty. I wonder what effect that has on the gas in the tank. Do you suppose it is evaporating our fuel??

I like the looks of that Rocket 3 engine but I would never need that many cc's. They should make a 1000cc Rocket and cut the weight to 500lbs. That would be a much more reasonable bike in my opinion. I've always like that longitudinal arrangement of the cylinders ever since seeing the old Indians.
