Okay we all know that Buell advertises some incredible fuel mileage that we seldom match, but this weekend I came close.

149.8 miles/2.528 gallons = 59.25mpg

Anyone else get that good?

I gassed up three times this weekend and I topped 50mpg every time, but the middle fill up blew me away. The first tank I averaged 51.69mpg (165 miles/3.2 gallons)and the third was 53.31mpg (160 miles / 3.0 gallons). Even if I mess up on the fill up, I averaged 54.4mpg for the weekend so still not bad.

I am always over 50mpg, and have hit 60mpg on three tanks. And I drive WOT almost everywhere love pulling out of the corners like a rocket.

I get the best mileage of everyone I ride with (around 50 mpg), sometimes better.

My brother gets the worse,KTM 950 adventure, about 35

My sister, Kawa Concours, low 40's

Greg, Kawa zrx1200r, low 40's

Bill, Yama V-star 1100, around 40.

Cliff, Electra-Glide Ultra Classic, mid 40's.

I beat all of them by a good margin, but
the Concours rules for range with it's nearly 7 ga. tank.

1200 mile round trip to Myrtle Beach for bike week on Ulysses. Stopped about every hundred miles to fill up and stretch legs. 102 miles / 1.68 gallons = 60.7 mpg.

In and out of towns and traffic all day. Once out on the open two-lane highways we rode between 60-65mph. You can see the story of the ride on

Some fill ups were in the mid to lower 50's per gallon. The 60mpg one was on straight level highway 70 to 80 mph.

My mileage seemed to have jumped to an overall average of 52 mpg after switching to Amsoil. It averaged 47-49 before. I hate to get on oil but that was the only change I made to the bike before the jump in mileage. I have never seen any higher than 53 though.

Best I've seen was 47mpg on a pretty slow group ride. Worse I've seen 42mpg while putting the whip to it.

I see around 50 most the time, and better on the expressways... was definitely less before my first service and switching to synth.

lol, on my Harley that I ride around a city or two over, I can use the fuel gauge almost like a distance counter on a GPS for the places I regularly commute... literally watch it move. Some friends are a 1/2 tank others are a 1/4 etc hehehhe... I don't get anywhere close to same gas mileage as the Buell. However the fuel gauge seriously makes me wish my Uly had one. I hate guessing what is in the tank when I forget to set the trip counters.

Funny thing is, even bad gas mileage on either bike is way better then my cage! Can’t complain considering gas prices and its summer : )

I noticed one of those racing gas pumps at a place nearby? Anyone use that stuff regularly? Does it make much of difference besides to your credit card?

I used to get around 42 mpg with the stock ecm. The funny thing is now with Race Kit installed, I've been seeing 49-50 mpg. Go figure.

An easy 50 all the time and under all conditions. 55+ on the highway going 70 when the bike was almost new...ask me again after the Homecoming (with full hard bags and a passenger)!

Here's the numbers from my CityX, just for comparison:

3.5L/100km ( 66 mpg) on my last fillup - BUT its been pouring rain here, so I've been riding very, very gently.

been averaging ~55 mpg while breaking it in 0-80 mph, mixed riding. No hwy data yet - first longer run is scheduled for this sat.

Debueller, your sis rides a Concours? Too cool. The Connie is my other favorite bike. LOL

BTW the Concours has a 7.5 gallon tank. I can go at 230-250 miles before switching to reserve.

Yea my sis not only rides it.... she rides the hell out of it.

When we were at the moto gp last July the beater xs750 she was riding blew up the top end.

She would not go home (Seattle area) on anything but a motorcycle, so her & I skipped the Saturday races and went bike shopping with her while everyone else went to the races.

We found the used '03 "Connie" at a bike shop in Monterey for $5900 with 3500mi on it.

She finaced it and rode it home, and now has about 17k miles on it. Last week we just spooned her 2nd set of Avon AV 45/46's
on it. She's a ridin' fool.

The Concours has been a great bike for her. Comfortable, reliable, it can keep up with everyone, and was a great bargin. Every time we remove the muffler for a tire change we gotta start "Monte" (her bike is a boy), 'cause it sounds so bithcin' with the muffler off.

I carry a small siophen (spelling) hose just in case we go too far between gas stops. I know that the Monte will always have enough fuel left in the tank to get at least one other bike to the next fuel.

She probally should have got a V-Strom because my bro and I sometimes drag her along on gravel sometimes. We gotta stop doing that. She never complains.

That's hilarious. We also use my Connie as a rolling tanker. I use it for all my distance rides. It is hands down the best value in the sport-touring world.

If she does the forum thing, tell her to check out www.concours.org It's a real great community, with guys who can take them apart blindfolded. All you needed to know about the Connie is there.

If she hasn't already done it, check the valves. They are notorious for coming from the factory too tight. At 1000 miles I found almost all the exhaust valves way too tight, and my second adjust at 7500 miles found all the intake too tight. After the first few adjustments many find that the interval can be lengthened to 12K miles.

Doh!

I wasn't aware of the issue with the valves, me and my brother do all the maint. on her bike....it's gets to be a handfull sometimes, she rides so damn much. We haven't checked the valve clearance, the bike runs very quiet. Usually "shim and bucket" followers seldom acually need an adjustment so we've kinda neglected to check them. (I don't like adjusting valves...I love the hyd. lifters on my Uly)

I'll let her know about the Concours web forum also. Maybe I need to check it out as well.

Thanks for the tips, Johnny.

Jerry.

Jerry- the Connie has screw/locknut adjusters, that's why the intervals are so short. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me. I am a veteran of the concours valve adjustment. There are a few tips and tricks that speed the process. I'm with you on hydraulic lifters though.

The forum is aces, tell them Johnnylunchbox sent you.

My Uly averages 45mpg. I commute daily to work
hauling my tools in some really large panniers. I usually am cruising at 80mph(which matches all the other freeway traffic) which puts me at 4k rpm. I can only wish for a sixth gear.

Consistent 42-43 mpg. Sea level commuting at freeway speeds (most of the time- So Cal "rush hours") ~80 mph for 10-20 miles of each 35 mile leg. I think some of the difference in reported fuel mileages (besides riding styles) is altitude (higher = better) and fuel formulation. California has oxygenated gas year round which causes lower mpg.

after st superdaves shop put in new rear wheel bearings during my tire change, im getting 40mpg at 78-83mph. i would still like it to be better, but this is a step in the right direction.

how do you people drive so slow (60-70mph)on the superslab?

the o2 sensor was checked at a different shop and they said it was ok. people have recommended just changing the o2 sensor anyways just to be sure.

homecoming was fun till the bitter end.

chris

anyone else with any other ideas?

On a 2-up trip with all 3 bags loaded to Rolling Thunder in DC over the Memorial Day weekend.....214.9 miles.....3.938 gallons....54.57 MPG. This was done on back roads, major secondary roads(50-60 MPH)and a short stretch of highway( 5 miles at 65-70 MPH). The bike is stock with 4500 miles on it and a worn out back tire.
I have to agree that the bike runs best when warm enough to have the fan on frequently and being ridden hard.
