Hi All,

I've seen several posts about cooling fans going kaput, but they all sounded like a sudden event. Mine is starting slow (when I turn it off), makes odd noises, then runs up to the obnoxious level we know and love. Anyone else have this? I need to know because my dealer is so popular in Summer, it could take a while for an appt.

Mine quit on a trip the trip to Barber. I was on the highway, so I didn't hear it making any strange noises. However, if your's is making noise you better make an appointment with your dealer.

My fan ran all day long. Temperature in the 70's and almost 500 mi. and it NEVER CUT OFF! It is no wonder that they are playing out. They run constantly and since they pull the hot air, the fan gets actually heats itself inside and out.

Well, thanks - one more question - has anyone had one quit slowly, i.e., it sounds weird, then dies? Or have they all gone belly-up after a ride? I know, way too detailed, I can't help it, nothing else has gone wrong, according to much of what I read here, something must.

Seems to me the fan should be working the other way around, pushing cooler air at the engine instead of pulling hot air through itself and heating up the ECU and battery... I'm uncomfortable with that.

I'm a newbie here so I don't know whether that's been discussed, or whether it's even a concern.

Guys, remember they've been using this cooling fan setup since the XB9R was introduced in 2002; it's not a "new for the Uly" thing.

It does seem like the Ulys are having more problems for whatever reason. I don't ever remember seeing a post about a bad fan on XB's before the Ulysses came out.

My fan was replaced under warranty due to bearing noises that it was making. This was within about 5 months of purchase. It never quit, just had bearing failure noises that sounded like a servo that was cycling over and over.

When I had about 100 miles on my bike, on the day that I picked it up, the Fuse blew at the end of the day. I got a steady Check Engine light. It was about 88 that day. I replaced the fuse and have had no other problem with it and have since ridden in 90 heat in stop and go traffic. I now have 1000 miles on it. It's serial No. 2358 Dec 05
Just FYI!

Could be a bad run of fans they got in. Mine is starting to drag and sound pretty bad. Dang, maintenance has just gone up. Change tires, fan and oil every 5k miles

I got an extra fan in the garage. Be prepared is my motto. The fan is one of the Uly's most unique traits and I would hate to ride without its familiar roar. As one other Badweb member said "loud fans save lives"

We need to adopt that as our motto and get it on a t-shirt! Who has connections in the
t-shirt business? Another one of my sayings that needs it's own shirt is:
If it sounds like a hair dryer... it's a Ulysses!
