Old story revisited - the locking latch just broke on my side case. This is number 2 - the first one broke 3 months ago. Anybody know if there is an improved latch coming? I could also use the name/number of the Buell guy who helps with this - I think it was Brian Williams or WIlson. Thanks | ||

The Buell Parts & Accessory manager is Bruce Champion, always very helpful, even with crappy latches & lid stays. You have to "pre-close" the lid before latching and make sure the lid is not constrained from closing freely. Yes, it would be nice if they were heavier, and Bruce suggested that they will be, but until then, the weakest link gets the kid gloves. | ||

Ditto Guybones. Bruce was very helpful, but it's a wait and see game. We are very careful when closing the bags now. | ||

appreciate it. i have been very careful too since the first one snapped - thats's why i was amazed when this when went. believe it or not, the first one went with the latch closed and locked and the bike parked in the sun!! | ||

The latch on my right-side case has always been much easier to close (takes virtually no effort to move it "over center") than the left (which does take some effort, like the top case latch). Anyone know if this "easy closing" is a precursor to latch failure? | ||

What is the proper way to release the latch on the side cases? I put the key in, unlock, it lifts up the other half moves away from the closed point but don't let go until I work it. What am I doing wrong? | ||

thanks Daves I got a cryptic message from my son today...."some lady called for you but when I said you weren't home she [verified] our address and said she would send it right out". What she was sending, where she was from, etc? "ummm I didn't get that" I'm guessing she was from Buell....thanks again | ||

Hold the lid closed as you open the latch. then just let the lid open up after the latch is completely open. those crazy europeans have some creative ways for these latches to operate. Givi does the same thing, and dont even get me started on the latch mechanism on the BMW bags. As long as you dont use the latch to close the bag, you shouldnt have much trouble with it. | ||

I do hafta say that it is a terrific *design* in that it still held the bag shut. It was actually kindava pain to get it apart...so it could have been worse. Great design, under-spec'ed material. fubar | ||

That's good to know that the bag will stay shut after the latch fails. I had one fail, and Court was very helpful in getting it fixed in a reasonable amount of time. (the dealer was prepairing me to have me wait weeks for a new one). I occasionally have this vision of my socks, tighty whities and assorted toiletries taking flight and causing a horrible accident after a bag opens in flight. BTW, Daves jumped in to get me a replacement as well, but Court beat him to it. They were both light years ahead of the dealer  : | ||

I got *great* dealer support when mine broke. They took a latch off another set and even gave me a spare as I was leaving on a week-long trip. Lucky to have a great dealer, but good to know we have depth and options. | ||

I've noticed sometimes the rubber seals get a little fudged up/loose and probably contribute to a harder-than-usual closure. It also seems that the there is a little more lateral play in the hinge now that it is "broken in" - so you have to finesse the bag closed before trying to do the latch. But you still have to be careful - I do this every time and never use the latch to ratchet or pull in the side and I still broke the latch | ||

Wow...my latches can break every month and I don't think I'd mind to much based on how much easier they are to operate then the absolutely pitifully designed ones on my Electra Glide. | ||

I just got my side cases installed last night and out of the freaking box the left one has a good sized 'ding.' The left side mounting hardware was perfect. Right side needed some Dremel work to evolve to the same level of perfection. Since the 'ding' is in the boot crossing over zone I'm not going to complain,,,,but I sure do like putting my own marks on $650.00 accessories  G2 |
