Just finished my first trip of any consequence; NM to Orlando FL (for a business meeting), then back to NM via GA, NC, TN, AR, OK, TX. Used about 1 qt oil, otherwise absolutely bulletproof. Uly stock except for Laminar Lip windscreen. What a great bike! I would take it anywhere. |

Congrats! Only 3100 miles and counting on mine, and still looking for my first block of time off that will allow a "real" ride like yours... |

Nice ride. How many days did you allow for the trip? |

We allowed 4.5 days from NM -> FL, and took a fairly direct route (1800 miles), although not primarily interstates. For the return route we took 6.5 days, and since we went north up into GA, NC, etc. the return mileage was about 2300 miles. Averaged about 350 miles/day (max 555, min 120). We took "backroads" the entire way back (except for I-75 to get out of Florida...not my favorite part of the trip). I fitted Avon AV45/46 tires for the trip, and they were great! They will last a LONG time and I will fit them again when it's time. I intend to prepare a writeup of this trip (not that it's a big deal for you, but it was a big deal for me) and I may make it available to anyone interested. |

I had done a similar trip last May, Tampa to Tuscon, and then 250 miles into Mexico. So when I saw that you recently did it, your trip reminded me of what I had did on my Venture. Did the extra wind wear you down, as compared to a tourer? Because my ULY is great, but if you stayed on the interstate for 500 miles, 3-4 days, I would think you wished for more fairing. |

A couple months ago I fitted a "Laminar Lip" to my Uly, and it reduces the wind load on my torso enough so that wind was not an issue. I was pleasantly surprised that even on the days with mostly headwinds, and mileages of 400+ I was not fatigued by the wind. I suppose if I had encountered repeated strong headwinds and 500+ mile days it would have been a bit much... Almost every other bike I saw was a full-on tourer (BTW, once off the interstate I saw VERY few bikes...doesn't anyone take the back roads anymore?) but I felt quite comfortable in the wind with the Laminar Lip. With only the stock windscreen it would have been much more of a challenge. |

Dr_G Where did you source the "lip"? Thanks |

I ordered it directly from laminarlip.com. Service was excellent, although you have to look through their site for a while to find the model for the Ulysses. I'm 5-9, so I didn't mount mine very high on the windshield; some users have reported excessive deflection when mounted high. I'm not saying the LL is "the fix" for wind protection---there are many other windscreens out there---but it seems to work pretty well for me. This topic has been discussed a LOT; you may want to review it... |

Thanks We have been following the WS discussion since the bike was introduced almost a year ago. Appreciate the input. Thanks |
