First off, I am not able to personally make it to a Buell Demo event because I am serving in Iraq until November! Frustrating, because I have already decided that I am getting a Ulysses when I return, but all I can do right now is read and dream.

Anyway, I had this great idea to ask (OK, guilt) my brother into attending one of the Buell sponsored Demo events to test drive it for me. I had two reasons for getting him to do this:

1. Get him to pickup one of those sweet Buell Sling Bags for his favorite (only) brother, so I could look cool!

2. Get him to fall in love with the Uly too, so I would have a future riding buddy (although he's gonna have to get black since the orange is calling me)!

The grand scheme was working perfectly; I had him feeling sorry enough for me that he agreed to give it a try. Great, a Buell demo was about to take place in Wildwood, NJ (about an hour from his house) on April 22nd. I kept a bug in his ear so he wouldn't forget. A couple days before the event he even called to get directions, and although the person he spoke with on the phone did not even know that a Buell event was going to be there that weekend, I convinced him that it was! So the big day comes, and he drives down to Wildwood, helmet in hand, ready to take the Ulysses challenge, when he discovers that the Demo's have been postponed due to rain! Noooooo!

Not to be out done by a little rain, I quickly began to devise my next plan. Ah ha! There is going to be another Buell Demo event in Langhorne, PA on the 29th of April, which is about an hour in the other direction from where my brother lives. This time I use the ole' "do it for your younger brother" card, and the ole' "this might be your last chance" strategy! Once again it was working flawlessly (although by now I think he was getting pretty curious himself).

So Saturday afternoon rolls around and he is ready to drag the family up to Langhorne (which was also a good opportunity to take the kids to see his old college stomping grounds), but first he decides to call just to make sure that it’s a go....and….Yes! It's time to rock-n-roll. As they arrive around 3 pm, he is informed that the demos were cut short because of an accident. You have got to be kidding me. Foiled again!

He had a chance to sit on the XB12X (and maybe catch a little of the Buell fever too), although I'm sure it was nothing like hopping on and taking her for a spin. But the day might not have been a total loss as he had the forethought to inquire about those nifty little Buell sling bags (what a brother, huh?). But no, it wouldn't be that easy. He said that nobody knew what he was asking for, even though it was advertised on the poster by the front door.

Needless to say he was a little disappointed by the organization of the event, but he actually still wants to take a test ride. So it is back to the drawing board for me. Anyone know any good "participating" sling bag demo dealers in southern New Jersey, with a Ulysses he can ride?

Maybe I should have titled this thread, “Help a brother out”.

Take Seth up on his offer. He's a good guy and the only person I've seen with 3 people on a Uly!

The Uly is a great bike, especially if you want to ride 2 up or take weekend trips.

Seth:

Thanks for the info, I have already passed your contact information to my brother (Scott). I know that he heads north on business trips every now and then, so I will encourage him to visit you!

Jeremy:

Thank you, that is a very kind offer. I will try to get my brother to demo a Uly because of reason #2 in my original post. I know that if he rides one, chances are that he will want one too!
